Anyone been to a Power Adventures/Botany Honda Family Fun Day?

Family Fun Day held up at woodhill Forest - Info found HERE

Just want to know a couple of things:

    1. How suitable is it for a DR650? Too big?
    2. What is your general thoughts on the event.

    Thanks

I think you'd find it hard work on a DR650. Do-able for someone who is experienced, but for anyone else it would be slow going/hard work, and you'd probably annoy a lot of people who want to get past. Power Adventures do a lot of events, no probs there, although $40 is starting to get a bit steep for a days riding. Especially if your going to just stick to the easy tracks, which I think you'd need to on the DR.

If you want to use the DR on trail ride, best to find one mostly in open farmland. The ones in Woodhill have a large amount of sand involved, which is hard to ride on even on light bikes. It's not too bad when you are used to it, and this time of year is quite good as a bit of rain helps dampen things down - dry sand is really soft which makes it horrible to ride on. The down side of the rain is that Woodhill also has a lot of exposed tree roots (being pine forest), and these get EXTREMELY slippery when wet.

you should be fine, as long as you have decent knobbles on your bike, worn out dot approved are no good, neither are jack of all trades cross over tyres.
You real want nice fresh Sharp edged tyres, and if you head out make sure you drop down your trye pressures from road use, down to about 10-12psi. will make a world of differance.
I go riding with a guy and he has a XR650 and he plodes along just fine.
Make sure you not wearing heavy road touring gear or anything like that, as it will get real hot.
And take off your mirrors and indacators or the forest will do it for you.
    Other then that have fun.

Gregs trails are pretty easy usually but I think he is using the same trails as used in the two man race a few weeks back so it might be cut up a bit. I reckon you would still have a blast regardless. Woodhill is not that difficult at this time of year.

Why not try The Sand Pit its cheaper and if you do fine there then you can come out to the wmcc trail ride in woodhill next weekend. A much better ride any way!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally I think that Greg,s trails will be easier than many of the trails at the Sand Pit, except of course the flat straight ones but that will soon get boring. A lot of the trails at the sand pit are quite tight for a big bike like that and the sand is quite soft due to the amount of use (was out there today). Greg goes out of his way to make his trails easy to ride, too much so for some of us. And you can ride the Sand Pit any other time really.
Greg usually has a loop of around 20-25km with some gravel and short cuts home and a loop of around 8-12km. Warm up on the short loop, then tackle the longer loop. I'm sure you will be ok.

Not that I'm an expert but I've been on about every power adventures family ride at woodhill for the last two years and the WMCC rides (which are basically the same) with 4 kids ages 11 to 17 and reckon you'll be ok.
Power adventures rides ( greg) usually has 4 tracks, kids loop, green 2km loop a yellow say 10-15km loop and then a red expert ~40km loop. So you can work ur way up. What danger and buddyL have said above is good advice.

If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40.

I did it. Was a good ride the loops hucked out good towards the end. You would of liked it danger and only road crossings no road sections all bush! Had a good mix of tight and open. The longer loop was good and the shorter loop was good also. In this instance he did put in some work i think, was one of the better ones i have done of his.

I did it to. Several sections I hadn't been on before. I just needed the practice for the two man on the 1st june the yellow and green loops were the same as usual went round couple times with the kids. The red track was getting nicely cut up by the end with some good old knarly roots about. what ride do u do greg?
