Thanks Camchain, thats what I thought. Im guessing the EXC has the headlight, unless it has been removed.

would you consider a 200sx? aparantly the same suspension valving as an exc but with better internals and more adjustment etc. sounds like the klx would bore you mate..great bike but a bit heavy and low-slung compared to say a wr etc

A lot of the Ktm 200 exc's have had the headlight removed and the SX number board put on.. I got an 03 for my son. Bloody great bike, light, as much grunt as the CR250, better brakes, more flick-able. I liked it so much I sold the CR250 and am waiting for an 08 Ktm200 to come off lease for me. That's if it all works out????
I think you'll might find the KLX300 A bit of an elephant especially compared to the KTM200. The wr is more X country orientated in my opinion. You pretty much dont see them at the tracks anyway. Bit soft over the jumps. I would think the Ktm 200 would be the best bike to do both. But if your into a nice x country ride go for the KLX or the Wr. But you won't get the whack or the cheaper maintenance of the 200 2smoker!!

I'll shoot to the garage and attach a pic or 2 of the boys KTM200 all I've done to it is handgrips and the gripper seat cover spent about $30 bucks on it so far. Oh! and the Pipe guard? Bad pics but a great bike to ride!!

Oh and there's a couple of 06 Ktm200 execs on t/me at the mo, but 7K is far far to much money. A couple of months ago a really nice 07, done 50hrs sold for $6500. There's one down in Huntly he wants 7k for. I offered him 5500 before this 08 deal came along and he turned me down. I notice he still hadn't sold it last time it went around, his highest bid was $3500 and it looks a bit rough. So bide your time. To be honest the 200 doesn't seem to get snapped up quickly most seem people to be going for the bigger CC's, but I think its a very very underated bike.

My opinion only just giving you some feedback?

On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

Its pretty good, as good as the 01 CR250 but smoother. But still with good torque in the tight stuff or on the hills. I'm just fooling around with the adjustable power valve on the 03, so still getting it right for me. Backing it off a bit actually.

I've ridden my mate's (03 IIRC) 200EXC a couple of times, the power is really good, a bit more hit in the mid-top end than the KDX200 I rode a while back but it still tractored around pretty well. I'd say if you liked your KDX but want something with a bit better performance & suspension then the 200EXC is the obvious choice.

    Cheers

    EXC200 frenzy

OK, No more EXC200 recommendations thanks Reckless. Too much buyer competition! That one we saw a few months ago seems like a real bargain now. That one in Huntly might have sold. The one in Ashburton is starting to look like a pretty good buy but too damn far away. I've been searching bikepoint as well (dealers) and getting nothing coming up!

Your boys machine looks real tidy, but he might be better off on, say for instance a KLX300? I Recommend a swap.

Cam I think there'll be more in the next short while as the new models come out soon. So some will be selling there old ones to update. Although times are a bit tighter this time around. I'm waiting for one to come off lease? That's if he still decides to get the 09 model, and its in good condition so still far from 100% sure as yet. Sharing the boys 03 at the moment.
And yeah that 07 for $6500 was a good buy, pity the Cr sold 2 weeks after it went rather than before. Oh well that's life!
    Good luck with your searching.

I'm still very partial to a KTM 200, however I may widen my search, I rode a 04 kxf250 today, what a wonderful bike to ride, nothing like my old KX250 smoker. Hmmmm, I may have to look at kxf 250's and yz250f as well. The service side really doesn't worry me to much, I have read about the 04 models overheating, whats everyone thoughts on using either of these bikes for trail riding etc.

There was quite a few problems with the earlier kxf/rmz but they got better with each year I think from 06 on they were pretty good, my mate has the 07KXF250 and likes it alot.

I started riding last year........went from a 1995 DR350,(heavy old beast it was)month later on to a 2004 KDX200....which was heaps lighter and quicker(obviously)but with my limited riding skill i struggled with the 2 stroke power(don't laugh you 2 stroke lads)two months later got a 2008 KXF250 and man i love it.... plenty of power, nice and smooth and rider friendly and the bonus of great engine braking on the downhills.......
