Death of Robert Dunlop - North West 200 - N Ireland

Robert Dunlop was recently killed in practice for the NW200 in Northern Ireland (brother of legend Northern Irish racer Joey Dunlop)

Two days later Robert Dunlop's son Michael won the NW200 in the 250cc's.

    Amazing motorcycling family.

"THE tears flowed as Michael Dunlop claimed a momentous victory in the 250 race at Saturday's North West 200 - just two days after the shock death of his father Robert.
Speaking after his first ever success on the Triangle circuit, Michael said: "I had to do it for him - I hope my dad's proud of me."

    Crickey! That's a tear jerker
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded

I was totally gutted when my mum text from the UK to say Robert had died - I thought of the mother burying both boys (first Joey and now Robert), but a bit later the text came through about Michael winning and I figured he must have been on fire doing it for his dad - amazing family.

Yep, it's been a rough year already in the Irish road race series. Martin Finnegan was killed a couple of weeks before at Tandragee.

Sad eh - I'm from the North - and the whole place is so mad about bikes.
