    Court Tues 27/05

Carrying on from my last thread
    http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ighlight=nomis

I have court next Tuesday, And I have been denied legalaid, so far the cheapest lawyer I have found is $500-600 for a hour and half defendant hearing.

I will be asking for the court to put this case off to another date as I was denied legal aid and want to hire my own lawyer.

Does anybody no a good lawyer ( preferably cheaper if there is such thing ) that can help me defend my case.? My work lawyer is no longer available to me. Cheers for any advice.

I think they mean you can afford a lawyer - they dont place any need for you to have a good one.

Depending on the risk of the fine / penalty you may want to simply defend yourself?

yeh I no but they will probabally win if I do that. Risk is- loose my licence 6months, bike impounded for 3months.

Really need to keep my licence for work ect ect and I generally do not want to loose it. And the fact that Im not guilty as well.

Sounds like you are between a rock and hard place ... my bro had to pay a coupla thousand years ago to defend his court case. He did get off with reduced penalties and still able to keep his licence.

He did say having squiddies to pay the lawyer was a handy thing indeed!

If you do loose your licence you can apply for exemption for the period of your working hours so that you can drive/ride during that time - if your work requires it. If your work does not require it I don't think that you can get an exemption .. e.g. you just need to get to work .. .might not work.

Remember, above all, to be polite to the overbearing authority figures.

I hate blind authority too, but being polite and civil and speaking nicely generally wins you goodwill instead of pissing them off by getting upset and abusing them.

Yes but applying for one again is more $$$ I have already lost out on enough by taking days off work and its like a bloody anoying fleebite that keeps itching. Imsure there used to people just weighing it up and thinking...........

............. Pleed guilty loose licence, cost's minimal, defend win pay thousands.... Starting to think its not bloody worth the hassel. oh well guess I can always watch some more judge judy and boston legal and do it my self huh.

Fight it all the way, plead not guilty, clog the system, deny, deny, deny. NEVER plead guilty to anything.

What is your license worth to you?

I lost mine for the summer but it didn't make a lick of difference to me. I applied for a work license and got it, paid a lawyer etc and kept a bullshit log, it's all about the money, make no mistake.

Yeh think I will pop in and see a duty lawyer and tell them I want to plead not guilty but ask for a new hearing date in order to employ a lawyer, Ill make sure I see the cop is there first so I can waste a bit of his time to.

When it comes around to it and if i cant afford it I will defend my self anyway.

That's the story, jerk everyone around for as long as possible. Keep up the good work and let us know how you get on.

That'll teach him. Why don't you just defend yourself, judges love people that take the initiative.
