You could make more accurate speedometers but I don't think there'd be many people willing to pay the price.

Performance Bikes magazine recently got an engineer in to look at bike dashboards in to see what the deal was. After testing them all, he concluded that the inaccuracy must be purposely built in, as they were simply to inaccurate to be able to be explained through things like production/component tolerances.

I put this up in response to a post and then realised that I'd answered the wrong question and things were wildly out of context. I promptly deleted it (within 30 seconds).

My post was supposed to answer a question on the revenue collection theory when the post I was responding to was actually asking about the quota.

This begs the question as to why... I can't think of a single reason to deliberately add error to any measuring device. Curious...

The latest batch shows most reducing... only one increasing. That is for parking in disabled spots up from $60(?) to $150.

Not wearing motorbike helmets is reducing from $150 to $50 - for both rider and passenger... Assisting Darwin, I guess...

I presume that there are still some that are merging, like the 1-10kph and 21-20kph over disappearing and being replaced by a 1-25kph ticket? (effectively increasing the cost of 1-10kph over).
