    Post Is this bad?

    Is this bad?

With all the heavy rain recently my drain has started to overflow...

The two pictures show the drain, one after I ran the hose for a while to simulate the amount of water when raining and the other after I let it drain. The second picture shows the normal level of the water inside the drain, regardless of the weather.

It seems like just a soak hole, but all the grey water from two houses goes into it.

Oh and the bubbles, that was my feeble attempt to clean the driveway the puddle is same size as the bubbles show.

Do I need to be worried about it?

No, but I own the bike that is mearly inches away from being in the large puddle...

Landlord is not interested unless it threatens to flood the house. She does not care if my bike gets swept away!

I have been emptying aquarium water into it for months - about 50 litres a week.

Bad? depends. can you swim ?. What has happened, is that all that aquarium water has ponged of fish. And that tasty smell has lured eels up the drain. Which they are now blocking. You could try sticking your arm down the hole, holding a fish, to see if you can lure the eels up high enough to grab them and haul them out.

Otherwise the problem is any attempt to clear the drain will just kill the eels. You will then have a drain full of dead decomposing eels. Noice.

Ixion is wrong. They are not eels, It is a Taniwha.
It will not leave until a Koha of several million $$$ is paid to the local Iwi.

Eels.Don't confuse the man. No taniwhas left north of the Bombays. The Chinese ate 'em all.

Stormwater drains discharge to local creeks. Creeks are full of eels living it up on pollution. More adventurous eely types swim up the drainage pipes looking for tastier pollution (or female eels).

    What total bullshit.

According to local IWI there is a Taniwha under every bit of prime real estate in Auckland.

None in Mangere, Otara or Beach Haven however - go figure.

So instead of putting an entire bottle of Drano down there, I should set up a little chair and get my fishing rod out?
