    New DriRider RallyCross Adventure jacket

Have tried on one of the new model & very impressive features. These include internal & external armour, hydration kit etc. The waterproof membrane and thermal liner (thick polar fleece) are joined together, so they can be worn as a smart looking seperate garment that is both warm & waterproof.
I really like the total jacket but there seems to be an issue: while the combined liner 'appears' a great idea, how does one make the jacket waterproof, without also having to wear the thermal lining? Plus the 'combined' liner is quite bulky & very difficult to stuff into the jacket rear storage pouch.
I baffled the retailer with these observations but maybe I'm missing something. Or is this a marketing ploy by DriRider so that we need to by a waterproof over-jacket for summer riding in the rain?

Just take the thermal line out

You can have it 3 ways
Just the jacket (great for summer)
The jacket and the waterproof liner (for wet weather)
The Jacket, waterproof liner and the thermal liner (for wet and cold)

What you cant do is to have the jacket and the thermal liner by itself

    Cheers

So Struan your working for the Fasion Police is see....it's Australian, you don't need waterproofing in Gimpie when it is 42 in the shade.....I have one of the origionals and have never needed the thermal liner in, beter to use the rain liner and some Ice Breaker or similar kit underneath.

Not many sleeps to go now!

The jacket I saw cannot be made waterproof without the thermal liner i.e. the thermal & waterproof liners cannot be seperated. Are we discussing the same jacket?

It sounds like Zukin is talking about an older version of the jacket the same as my one and you're talking about the latest version - which I haven't seen.

My version has 3 separate layers (outer, thermal liner, waterproof liner) which all zip together or any one or two layers can be left out. My thermal liner is a quilted type of thing, not polarfleece.

Yes it is a brand new version, the older versions they kept the same for a while.

Thats a shame, I often found that I only needed the waterproof liner in, and not the thermal liner

Definatly a new version. They say something about the liner being reversable? Does that mean you cant zip it into the shell reversed either? having to have the thermal in without the waterproof sux big time. That means the water proof will be inside the thermal and the thermal will get drenched in the rain. Its bad enough that the shell gets drenched. Silly silly move Dri Rider.

I agree with Jezza - dont bother with the thermal liner just wear a merino or fleece as needed. That way you can control the warmness better and you can wear them at the rally site/hotel as well.

OK then just bought a new bike so no money left to buy one of these new fangled jackets. And you guessed it...it's orange!!!! So it means the trusted XTZ 750 has to go....hopefully to a loving, caring individual who will look after her. But be careful as she does bite!!!!!

Yes, you can leave out the (reversable) thermal liner, but then the jacket is no longer waterproof i.e. the waterproof membrane is permanantly attached to the thermal liner.
I checked with a couple more retailers this week & none knew how to make the jacket waterproof without using the bulky thermal liner.
I have now emailed the importers, to see what they recconmend.
Otherwise it looks to be a great adventure jacket.

Sounds like a case of finding the one of the previous two versions if you can. Leather direct had some older ones (two versions ago without the zip off sleeves) a while ago.

No waterproof unless thermal is just wrong. Today was a classic example - went up Takamatua stock track in the wet and there is no way we needed extra warmth but defiantly wanted to keep the rain out.

If you want a better mesh/waterproof/thermal combo jacket have a look at a Teknic Sprint, I've done about 15 000 km & one big crash in mine now & it's pretty good. The waterproof bit zips on the outside, which means less of the jacket gets wet. The thermal bit goes on the inside. Like the boys say, unless it's real cold I just go with a fleece underneath, but it's seriously warm with all the layers on. It's super cool in mesh mode & waterproofness seems good. Comes with good quality armour. Only real issue is not many pockets. Mine was on special for $400.

    Bloody idiots

Have owned the old version for 5 months doing lots of trail rides with it and love the versatility of 3 layers all seperate, and a water pocket on the back, great on the road for same reasons as on dirt, the new one seems a bit sexer but if they have buggared about with the triple layer system their bloody idiots. cheers moosester
