To make the jacket waterproof without the bulky thermal liner, the importers suggest buying an extra membrane, available for approx $60.00. However because it's actually designed for a different jacket, the zips aren't compatable. While they do supply an extra zip with the liner, you still have to get it sewn into the jacket yourself !!

So would you recommend this jacket or is there something better in the price range.
Just hopefully going to be getting one soon if I twist the wifes arm a bit and was quite keen on the DriRider.
Anyone have an experience with their other jackets like the Nordic or Summit?

It sounds like the new Rally cross has lost the plot. Try and find an older model if you can. The Nordic and Summit will probably be very warm. I have Nordic trousers and cause they dont breath if I'm doing any work I end up wetter on the inside than they often are on the inside.

If your not too prone to breaking out in a sweat every time you do a little bit of exercise a Rjays Evo jacket may be OK. My wifey and Transalper both have one. Decent jackets with some venting zips but they dont flow enough air for me.

    Cheers R

Your pants sound like my Quasi Cordura ones....It's not till you take them off you realise how wet they and your undies actually are

I've had a look on trademe for older versions of the rallycross, but most seem to be rediculous sizes like 4XL.But I'll do some research into the one you've mentioned.

Had a look at the new Rally Cross jacket today.
Are you sure the jacket itself isnt waterproof? As in the brochure it's saying it's 100% waterproof.Unless that means only with the liner added in.
Other than that,I liked it and am seriously considering buying one.

The ones I have seen appear to have mesh panels. I.e. with the liner removed I could see light through parts of the jacket (front) outer.
The importer / distributor also indicated that the jacket needs a liner to be waterproof.

Hmm seems weird as the little booklet here shows the diagrams at the top and there is one for 100% waterproof and there is another showing detachable inner lining, zipout waterproof jacket lining.
Maybe you could test it by standing the shower with it on for me
But from what I have read and what I can make out,it's saying it's waterproof without the lining having to be in there, which makes it confusing.

Have you seen my thoughts on the Teknic Monsoon (Thread re: Cheap Gore-Tex)?

Yep,I have followed your thread.Only thing that'd worry me is if anything went wrong with it,it's a bit hard to send back to get sorted. At least if it's local I can dump it on a counter and say "fix it".
I went and had a look at Hamptons grand opening today as our office lady does some accounting work for them on the weekends. She rang me about some Strada Giro jacket and gloves. They look good, but I was a bit concerned about the length of the jacket when sitting.Sure enough, sat on a bike and it'd leave a nice gap between pants and jacket
So I think the DriRider is going to be purchased on monday, even though it is a few $$ dearer.
