Thumbs up Neck brace: Did it save me?

Well as you may have read i was at the Broxey training day on monday.
    Only for the VIP

And i had a rather heavy tumble.
(working on our corning at the time)

I was getting better and smoother with every pass.
So with James and Peter on the side of the track, watching and having a bit of a chin wag. I thought i would try the corner at high speed....
look at me, look at me,look at me

I was travelling at high speed (almost about to go back in time),
and i was extremly late on the breaks, so late that i went plowing into the 2 foot bearm of the corner.
(if i gassed it, i would have just jumped the bream)

And go supermaning over the handle bars, landing head first on the grass.
with my helmet taking the full impacked, and transfering the force onto the neck brace, which in return spread the force over the body armour and over my shoulders, i was able to stand up and shake off the crash.
Although a little dizzy at first, within a few minutes i was back on the bike and able to carring on with the rest of the day.
Only other damage was i smashed my helmet visior as well.

Two days on and my neck, shoulders and ribs are all stiff and sore.
Could bearly lift a sheet of 9mm MDF today.

Before i go riding again, ill invest in another neck brace for sure.
Ill have a look at the eva's one, when they are in store.
I highly recomend one, if your into riding a off road motorcycle of any sort.

true, i didn't even think about the helmet impact.
it was into quite soft grass, but his head hit first then his feet went over his head. it looked really really nasty.

I've found out first hand what can happen if you don't have a neck brace. I went into a ditch after a hidden corner on the Rainbow Road and went over the handle bars. Left leg caught the handle bar which made me do a somersault and I whacked my head on the ground. When I came to a stop I was seriously winded (couldn't breath) but once I was over that wiggled the fingers and toes to make sure all was well. Long story short - got choppered out to Nelson Hospital and turns out I cracked my C1 vertebrae i.e. the very top vertebrae. Bloody lucky to be alive and had to spend the next 6 weeks 24/7 in a SOMI brace (only reason I didnt get a HALO was cause they thought I'd cracked my shoulder blade).

If you can see the fucken cat! Basted to sleep and eat in - soup and mashed spuds get boring very quickly! Still I shouldn't be complaining cause others have come away much worse.

    Just wear the neck braces!

Look at the neck brace thread buddy B4 you buy another one. Looks like Leat are coming out with an affordable model for the masses. $195-00 USD. I kinda don't like to support them after there other products where so over priced but now they have some competition it looks like sanity has prevailed. all in the long term marketing (ripoff) plan I suppose. Sell it for a grand till the opposition catches up them market the ordinary one cheaper than the rest.
But by the looks of it it still seems to be the best design!!! So safety first!

$250nzd for the EVS looks good to me. reviews will overload the internet as soon as they are released. all the sites in the states are waiting in eager anticipation to do a side by side comparison with the leatt.

Ah..... the knee brace vs neck brace dilemma.

i have also had this debate with myself.

i came to the conclusion that..... if you break your neck your knees don't matter anymore. therefore neck brace first, knee braces second (when i win lotto)

Yeah i'm having the same debate at the moment, to late for the knee now though should be having surgery in the next two months i've just got to wait for a confirmed date. But I think i will have to splash out and buy both, just have to decide which is best.

do you guys who have neck braces use them all the time (ie trail riding etc) or just when you are racing?

Are they uncomfortable or restrict movement?

    cheers
