i heard nolan stopped making the n70, but another lesser known brand took over the making of this perticular model, dont know which brand though.

Yep, same lid, same factory, just a different name.
HJC also have lids out in same style - could be worth a look.
I had a squizz at an Arai a while back, but the fit and finish left me unimpressed - well below Arai's normal level.

Owned a Nolan N70 for 8yrs, and bought a new Grex RD1 to replace it last year. Happy to recommend it as a good priced dual sport helmet.
Visor is very scratch resistant, helmet is light, and not very noisy. A bit of fogging in low temps, but for approx $200 you can't buy better.

I bought a brand new Arai Tour X from a fella in Petone. Was contactable at falkenn@gmail.com.

He sorted me out with one for $660, rather than $850 from the shop round the corner. I was pretty suspicious at first, but since TSS failed to return any of my calls, despite spending an hour in the shop trying them on, I decided to give him a try.

Imported directly (3 day wait), but offers a wide selection if you know what you want (model, size, colour etc).

    When was this? December 2007.

    Hope it helps.

    helmets

Thats a good price for a Tour X - well done.
I'd be interested in your thoughts about the peak - I have heard this style of helmet stresses the neck at "open road speeds"
I'm a fan of flip front helmets, for lots of reasons, mainly I like opening it up when the time is right for that un-obstructed feel.
I really like the look of this Caburg Trip flip front

Has anyone got one or any experience of one - that link gives it a good review and I like it's looks, and they're available for seventy quid in the UK - good value and that sun shade thingie looks like it would be the dogs ...
    Constructive thoughts please .

I use a motox helmet and googles, have use a Airoh S4, and a Grex RD1 all with peaks. Fit is very important to stop the helmets moving around on you head (S4 was a PITA). I've broken my neck and never have any neck troubles and don't think there is much in the "helmet stressing the neck" argument at around legal open road speeds. In saying this I played rugby as a prop till about 10 years ago so maybe some of the neck strengthening paid off.

The whole peak thing is a bit of a myth - but not entirely!

At normal road speeds (100+.. ..o/taking only you understand!) it really is not a problem. The peak has some, albeit minor, room for adjustment which means you can keep it pointing down and therefore 'below' the wind. But do beware if you chose to either look upwards at speed, or do a full on head turn at speed. Sure, you notice the extra pressure under these circumstances, but if you're riding around at high speed and permanently looking behind then you won't last long anyway.. ..so it won't be a problem

I started out looking for a flip top to accommodate the glasses, but in the ended I decided a peak was more useful given that I do much of my riding after work, in the evening and heading directly into the sun! I did look at looked at the Caberg Trip also (good prices available in the UK), but since I could not try one on anywhere in NZ, I decided not to order one.. ..with helmets, it's got a fit right!

In the end my research led me to Arai, on the grounds of top safety. I much prefer their concept of a super tough outside and soft (hard really, but it's all relative) inner to slow the head more slowly before coming to a sudden stop - my college physics supports their theories which gives me some confidence.

Downsides with the Arai? Not a top performer in the non-fogging stakes, but a breath guard and ski goggle de-misting paste has all but cured this. No skirt on the helmet, so 'cool' in the winter months, but it allows plenty of air flow inside (a little too much when cold!)

It is a hard decision to make, but i am 'well pleased' - no regrets!
