Smile Suddenly there is heaps of bikes on TM. Sign of times?

I tend to keep an eye out for a bike bargain. Something that the owner does not realise what it is worth and if I am fast I can manage to snap it up before the next guy wakes up. (Yep, I realise that I am the only one doing this...)

Suddenly there is heaps of them available on TM. OK, so when the auction is put on TM the first time the owner wants what he thinks it is worth. But as time goes and he ends up listing a few times, he realises that he is the only one who has that figure in mind. And in the end the bike tends to go for much less then he wanted for it.

I can only put this down to the harder times. Costs have gone up and everyone is looking to what they can sell to make ends meet, so any toys that are not needed will be sacrificed.

A decent bike that has WOF and Rego is still $2K+. But even there, if you are happy to have a 20 year old one, you can get something around $1K. So there is no reason not to have a bike you can use at the moment.

Just had a look and there is close to 7000 bikes for sale. Not counting the ones in parts.

And cages, $250 gets you a runabout with WOF and Rego...

May the bridges I burn light the way.

Yep, theres more listed bikes for sure, but the owners are still wildly optimistic when valuing there bits of plastic and chrome.
It's much better to get 1k-2k less for the POS today, rather than wait 4mths to find out that nobody will ever pay that much.
Prices will drop later this year and more so next year as NZ economy goes tits up.
Thats the way my crystal ball sees it anyway.

And a certain few will just hold on to the bike a wee bit longer rather than sell at a lower price.

Some good bargins around alright but the REAL good ones go very quick

Also being winter you would expect a few more private sales as some hang up the boots till Summer

Ive just had an interesting experience selling my CB400F's: I put both on at reasonable reserves, people came looking and I sold both of them. I always do start = reserve auctions, so people know where they are, but I had hoped for more for both.

Ah well, I'm not selling because I need the money really, what I need is space to tinker with my OTHER two project bikes .....

I think it just shows how many bikes there are in the country at the moment.

There are lots of lawn mowers as well.

Don't forget that many non-bikers are seeing two-wheels as a way to cut down on the cost of commuting. What's the waiting time on booking your practical test these days? Long I'll bet.

    I blame the Gubmint.

C'mon - you should all blame them for as many things as possible; they don't get as much shit as they deserve.
And it is an election year after all, y'know.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

Yeah shame on them for creating an economic environment where an honest man has to sell his ride to buy milk.

I just wish there were as many bikes on Ebay, over here.
I'm sure I saw my old T250 on Tardme last year - going for a very reasonable price.........
