Havn't even got a bike yet....

So I'm not even a newby just a wannabe!

I'm about to embark on the journey of getting my bike licence, I know little to nothing about bikes and have just as much experience in riding, I could count the times on one hand of how many times I have ridden a bike!

I guess I'm taking up this challenge now due to the cost of travel, I spend over $200 a fortnight on gas driving to work and have looked at all the other options. I must admit I am a bit anxious about learning to ride and getting on the road, is that normal??

My mate Griffin who is a member here and a keen bike rider, is comming with me this week to look at gear and bikes, and has been great with encouragement. I have read several of the threads and can already see how much of a community this is, I didn't realise bikers were so tight, I look forward to picking your brains about my delema's

Welcome to KB Rhino. I hear ya about the costs of commuting to work in the car. I used to spend $100 on petrol and $60 on parking each week so the option to ride was a no brainer. I started off on the Hyosung 250 GTR and it was an awesome bike, cheap as chips to run and a blast to ride on.

An upside of having the bike to commute on i found was that it took less time, i was going from Upper Hutt to Welly each day in the car and had to leave before 8am or else id still be getting in to work at 9am or later. On the bike i started going in at 8am and wonderd why i was at work at 830am. So the time saving is good too.

Definitely keep in touch on here, id be happy to ride with ya whilst you are learning.

Picking the brains of a biker group? Gee, thats morning tea covered. But seriously, yeah right, go and enjoy the sensation that is shopping for your first bike and gear. There is nothing more rewarding than getting in and amongst the terminology and the product. Look at everything, work out what style you want, how you want to look, attitude etc. Just enjoy the experiance.

Love your first bike as we all have and then just enjoy riding.

First tip for you: the Yamaha Scorpio 225, at $3,800 brand new, would be my personal choice out of the learner bikes on the market at the moment.

Thanks for the welcome, Bull I will take you up on your offer, both in UH I see, I'm looking at getting a Hyosung GV250 as i'm a bigger lad with a belly to match so have to sit upright and lean it on the tank. was suggested but I just laughed and threatned to dissown my mate!

Someone has offered me a GV250 for $4,500 It's a 2005 model with 2800kms on the clock, whatdayareckon???

I'm really looking forward to getting out to the bike shops on Friday, then onto the skills course on the 13th. Lot of work to do between now and then though
