yeah, i dont really have a problem with arse creeping when you're about to pass....i mean, you can't pass without getting close can ya

it's those fuckers that drive by habit and just seem to have this automated distance between themselves and the vehicle in front regardless of speed that piss me off

Should have told them they were speeding -cops would have been all over them!
With commercial vehicles, usually the best bet is to phone the company and go up the food chain until you get to the top, then let them have it (politely). Follow up a bit later to make sure some action has been taken.
One tailgating driver got a written warning with this - the company was not impressed at the potential publicity.
It is the sort of behavior that sometimes appears in the Sideswipes column of the Herald - whcih is very well read and can be fairly direct...

There are no readily available electronic devices to measure and prove tailgaiting so they stick to charges for 1 kph over.

Unfortunately no electronic device for measuring common sense either, otherwise we'd have a much more respected constabulary on the roads

Just hit the brake pedal for a sec or two. On a bike I just move on and pass.

If I need to speed to get out of the way I'll do that with no hesitation cop or no cop. I'd sooner take my chances in court than with some fuckwit who may be playing with a cell phone.

The time and place where I am most tempted to try and get some to ram me from behind is if I'm being tailgated coming up to lights turning orange. That would be priceless, get the fucker for following too close, causing a collision AND intending to run the red lights (this is in the car obviously, and actually I could do with someone buying me a new rear bumper anyway.)

But then again, it would be an inconvenience.

Bloody European cave-people - those guys looking Italian and speaking weird are the worst let me tell you!

Mind you, go driving in Italy and you'll have an eye-opening experience. They use the horn a lot, they yell a lot at each other, they follow too close, they double park and generally drive like lunatics. Still, they are as a general population of motorists, better than the kiwis. Not a lot of stress, more considerations, competence and proper driver education being the most likely 'culprits'.

You're not alone in being disgusted! Call 111 next time and say that you have someone trying to kill you - that might get a reaction.

I find that bullying doesn't work in Chch - if it's not on their cellphone or directly in front of their car people don't wanna know about it!

    Too true! I'm guilty too...

Incorrect, I have a speeding ticket at 118 km/h to prove it too...

i got gated by one of susans co workers last week after picking her up after work. it had been raining, just enough to wet the roads, but not enough to clear away any oil etc. it was wet enough to make me be more cautious.

anyways... wed just pulled out of little road where susans work is. i was doing roughly 50, or thereabouts. might have been a tad slower as we would be going around a corner a few hundred meters up the road. i look in my mirror and see this car right behind us. i stomp on the brake 3 times, and she just gets closer.

i slow to almost a stop and take the corner [its dotted with white lines and manhole covers] we come out of the corner, and i get back to 50k. check my mirror again, and the same car is following just as close. she then proceeds to overtake, no indication, before pulling back in, again with no indication. i hollered wanker as loud as i could, and flipped the bird.
we are a block away from a busy intersection that has very poor visibility, specially at that time of night [5pm]. its truly a wonder she didnt cause an accident.

i have asked susan to get me her plate details, and i will be filling in the online complaints form. susan also spoke to their boss, and hopefully he will speak to the bitch.

i hate to think what would have happened if she hadve hit us. susan would have likely been badly injured, which doesnt bear thinking about.

if she gates us again when im picking susan up. i will be stopping in the middle of the road and having a chat.

Happened to us a few years ago -got rear-ended majorly in the car by some dumb woman who wanted to run a red light from behind us (and thought we we're going to as well). Admittedly we braked rather heavily to avoid the red once making the decision not to go for it and she just whammo'd into the arse of our car. Was our old Bluebird and at a glance you could barely see any damage to ours - forget what she was driving but her bonnet was totally crumpled. Witnesses called an ambulance just in case but the police weren't involved at all. Luckily all round noone was injured and her partner was a panel beater so we all got off pretty lightly considering the impact!
Would never consider it on a bike. Gee I wonder why.

Since when were B trains allowed to exceed 95? He was speeding...mind you, so were we - to find out what he was doing. Do you think we were lucky to escape attention too??
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

This happened to us also, I got tired of it happening so let truck pass and got the companies phone number off door , rang the office and asked for transport manager, told him what had happened and that i was now following the truck and at what speed we were doing gave truck number and rego, he must of been able to contact driver as the truck slowed up quickly and then as we repassed him we got a lovelly wave/gesture.
