I dont know......... actually it was because it needed some money spent on the gear box (gearbox was a straight cut box) and this wouldent of been cheap the bike had 80,000k on it and that was bloody good for a straight cut.... so instead of spending 2k on that I spent 2k on a new bike, never had one of them before... funny how a old Iti bike with 80,000k on it is worth the same as a new jappa+2k Still have Guzzi at heart tho.... the next bike will be one again.

They are a funny animals these Guzzi's.
You will love them or hate them.

I and a lot of people that have the older ones find them hard to sell.
Most of the guys that I know have owned theirs for well over 10 years.

A bit like the people that own them....

Nothing wrong with that. You hardly ever see a bog stock one either. They kinda evolve! I have to admit, when a good Guzzi is climbing up the revs there is bugger all like it. If you could put fun on a stick it would be an 850cc Lemans.

    I don't think it's all the box!

My LM2 has the C/R straight cut ZD box in it but after about 83 or 84 Guzzi stopped making shit like their own bolts and stuff and little cost cutting measures appeared. (started spending on paint and stuff I guess)

The early spine frames (Sports and Daytonas) did away with the cush drive in the rear wheel and used 'modern' bearings in the gearbox. It didn't work!

The upgrades are pretty well understood now (buy a copy of Guzziology and join MGNOC) and the Sport boxes can be made reliable. Best bet is to pull the box at the first sign of trouble and do the job! (Mk5 top gear set and better bearings, proper shim job and align the U/J's etc) I've never been in a Guzzi 5 speeder but thats what I'm told!

The very very last 1100 Sporti was a better bike.

Yip the single seat daytona's had no cushdrive... but their g/box's wernt a problem, as they produced way less down low grunt and only 5hp more at the top end (IMHO a 1100 sport would kick ass, not the RS Daytona tho pic above as it had 102hp)

Yip again the carb 1100 sport had no cush drive and these g/box's would shit themselves somewere between 10,000k-30,000k also these g/box's only had a 3 dog set up which added tho the problems.

The up grade you mention is corect, it is only necasery to replace top gear with a helical gear (Mk5 etc)
Infact the guy that has mine now put his 91 milie box on the sport which also gave him a 5 dog box again.

The very last 1100i sport (pic) would be the corsa from the factory with a upgraded chip and c/f Termgonie cans.....emmmmmmmm (cans missing in this pic but nb the c/f frount guard, black engine and tail piece)
My sport had these mods done and was ment to have had the heli g/box in it but you now Guzzi.... just reach up on the shelf and grab the closest g/box

Agree, and Paul wish I got a pic but the bike coming 2nd in its class ay the Nelson st races was a Mk1.... or 2 frount brakes were behind the forks, 1 or 2? anyway it was beating a GPZ1100inj (82) and yeah the sound made ya hairs on the back of the neck stand up. (see [ic, took him on the outside)

A Guzzi went past us when we were having lunch yesterday - I think it was a Daytona. Even the wife commented on what a nice bike it was, and how good it sounded (until the rider changed gear....)

I almost bought a Guzzi to replace the VF500; I wanted something a bit more relaxed and simpler, and with some character.

One day, I might own summat Italian (apart from my gloves, boots and helmet, and the Ducati keyring I bought at Casbolts...)
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

That's a start......PM me if you'd like DABL (Ducati Accessory Buying Lessons). Her B_4 can vouch that my lessons work well.

    Dangerous:
Otematata is on SH83, between Oamaru and Omarama (near the Benmore Dam)

Dont even know who they are here...
Those who insist on perfect safety, don't have the balls to live in the real world.
