    So I've got this friend...

And yes he is a friend (not the proverbial me in third person thing) who is a very large guy, stands 6ft and is generously rotund... he is keen to get into biking more as a fuel cost saving measure than for the love of it (that will follow). He has been asking me what type of bike (cruiser style) would suit him. I have a Yammy XVS250 and he likes it but it is a little pressured under his manly girth. He has seen Keeway cruisers on trademe and is keen to sit on one and try it out.

What I would like to know is - what did other 'larger' bikers start on...?

I almost feel that he needs an exemption in order to allow him to be on a 400+ for his learners. We are going bike shopping this Friday but suggestions would be most welcome.

I think you aren't allowed to weigh more than the bike you ride. I'm not sure where I saw that in the LTSA code.

Yeah saw one for the first time summer just gone, guy pulled up & chatted to a bunch of us, told us all about the "Burg". Seems like a good bike if thats your thing.
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded

So if you ride on, are you a Burg-er?? Or a Burg-ee??

Or if you drop it, do you yell "Burggar"

And if it was cold, would it be an IceBurg?

Thank you. I'm here all week. Try the veal, and be sure to tip your waitress.

Your mate could apply for an exemption from the licencing restrictions because of his size and also for safety reasons (They always like that aspect).

That way he could ride a bigger bike, like a Boulevard C50T fo example , while still on his learners licence.

Licencing exemptions, while not given out freely, are not that hard to obtain either.

Give the LTSA a ring and chat to them about it.

They are quite helpful if your upfront with them and remain calm.

We should all use the exemption system more often, just because we can and because we are entitled too!!!

Failing that, like I said before theres always more than one way to skin a cat.....

Book a trip to Raro come home with a Tan and a Full Rarotongian Bike Licence, convert it to a Full NZ Bike Licence for $45.
Could possibly be the cheapest and is certainly the fastest option to obtaining a Full NZ Bike Licence

Dont ya just love the fine print in our our licencing laws
