Gixxer 1000 radiator guard

Hi, I need to invest some time in creating a radiator guard/shield for my k6.

Does anyone have any good advice or instructions for doing this?

I have heard terms like spacers, washers, mesh from repco, etc. While i know what these are, the part that scared me a little was when i was told that you have to bolt the guard to the bike... last thing i want to do is ruin the fairings.

I thought I would seek advice on the much wiser KB, to see if anyone can lend some knowledge.

1, get mesh from repco, supercheap, aluminium place, etc

2, cut to size of radiator (make a cardboard template first if you want to get flash)

3, fix your spacers to mesh (note dont go fuckin mental and cover the whole radiator, 1 on each corner and 1 in the middle is usually sufficient), the round rubber dots used for under glass table tops etc are good as they are adhesive on one side (i use a adhesive rubber strip that i can pinch from work, similar to the draught stop used around old windows)

4, fix to radiator with cable ties through the fins (note on the gixxer you can tuck the sides in behind the fairings, and fix the top and bottom with cable ties around the radiator mounting brackets without the need to go through the fins).

note make sure the mesh isnt directly in contact with the radiator (hence the spacers), otherwise if it moves around it may rub a hole in the radiator (especially on the paper thin radiators on the K5 - K6 gixxers)
