But the cop does have the option of not to chase. That way no-one is at risk.
Not always so, several crashes have been a result of idiots doing a runner as soon as a cop-car appears on the horizon, regardless of the fact the cop hasn't even realised these idiots a speeding off and has not even chased them.
This includes a pretty bad one down here a few years ago, driver was drunk and disqualified, saw cop-car on another street and did runner, cop wasn't chasing but found crash after seeing car spin out and discoverd it wrapped around a pole, that's just one intance of that but yeah if there were no chases there would likely be less crashes.

Just hope the public would be happy with the response "yeah, we spotted your stolen car with all your burgled property inside it but we decided not to chase it for safety reasons...."

Off topic I know, but on an American sportbike forum I frequent we had a guy complaining about getting pulled for a routine check, mainly because of the number of bike thefts in that area. See, the cop was actually looking out for joe public (late at night, like 2am or something) but the guy couldn't see this. All it was to him was an annoyance, couldn't see the reasoning behind it. Sure, its annoying getting impeded in your flow due to a 'routine' check, but I'd rather that knowing that the police were taking part in an active attempt to reduce bike thefts. Can't win 'em all though, always going to have someone upset. Seems as though the old internet has given them a louder voice.

    Hahaha

Glad I was born in the 80's?

    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

I think you missed to boat/point here. Motorsport comes in all forms just like the vehicles on PS2 games and the such. Many of these forms of motorsport may be watched on sky digital and do not exsist in NZ, nor buy any shit show in hell, are permitted on any road in most places in the western world. There ARE cars that will beat you or others on their bikes, just none that you will ever encounter probably within yer lifetime... (Oh and originally it was not directed just at you).
Those who insist on perfect safety, don't have the balls to live in the real world.

and put a good driver in it and see if it cant outrun a bike....

oh and Avgas, my dads best mates wife became a vegetable when some fuckwit was doing a runner... yeah, he (rider) died and she didnt, but to her 3 under-5 year old daughters and her husband she might as well have...... she could never remember who the were....
and the rider wasnt doing more than 140 without a headlight when he went straight up the bonnet and into the passenger-side windscreen..... doesn't take 200k to wreck someone elses life.

Maybe I've missed the boat here again, but since when have we been talking pure race cars? (re your reference to motorsport.) And if you read my post I agreed that a well sorted car with a good driver would take down a bike on most, if not all, roads.

Still trying to get my head around your motorsport reference. I don't see the relevance. Help the blind to see Honda.

yeh good point, however i dont think u will see me riding without a headlight.
But a point i put to you is, how fast is your bike? The reason i ask this is u must quote a speed you have done on it.....no.
Sad to hear about your dads mate man, its riders like this that shouldnt be allowed to get on the road in the 1st place.
PS: My runners from the cops were below 100kph. And lasted for about 30sec - where i could tuck the bike somewhere and switch it off. The guy who started this thread.....well thats another story
