I took my bike over to a mates house last night. I showed it to him and he was very impressed. He asked if he could have 'go' so I asked if he'd had any previous experience riding. He said that he'd done heaps of off road riding, so I thought what the hey.

!!BAD MOVE!! He let out the cluth and headed along the road at walking pace toward a parked car. He just kept going toward the car and swerved at the last moment only to drop the bike.

So now the side fairing has heaps of scratches down the side of it. I've been down the panel beaters this morning getting quotes. The quotes ranged from $200 to $860. So I got in touch with my mate (maybe hes my ex mate) told him the different quotes I got. He opted to pay for the $200 repair.

As I'm removing the fairing 5 mins later I notice a load of oil over the garage floor. It seems that some oil sump cover on the side of the bike has been pierced from the fall and thats why its pissing oil. So now I'll have to get my bike down the bike shop to get yet another quote to get this fixed.

I'm guessing it'll cost $500 or so to get the bike in its original condition. It makes me feel real crap knowing that I'll have to ring my mate and tell him he owes me more money.

For the sake of friendship, no unecessary worries, wasted time etc, the moral of the story is to only ride ur own bloody bike. :disapint: :disapint: :disapint:

Nothing wrong with riding other peoples bikes...

I think the moral of the story should be - only give the keys to someone you know can ride and pay the bills if they can't

Sorry to hear that andrew. W-kid is right about the last bit antway. An accident can happen to any one at any time.

If he's a real mate he'll feel bad about crashing your bike and will want to make it right. If he isn't, don't you feel bad about doing what's necessary to get it fixed properly and him to pay for it.

Hope your up and running soon as this weather can't last forever!?

Feel for you Andrew, but what wkid_one said speaks volumes. Had the same thing happen to me, a loonngg time ago, similar result. Basic rule for lending any one your bike - Have you seen them ride . . . .

That's a bummer, Andrew. Even if your mate does the decent thing and pays for everything, you still have the inconvenience and frustration of being without your bike for a while. It's easy to say that you should just have said no to your friend, but I know how hard it can be. If it's any consolation, I let someone ride my Honda just a week or so ago, on the basis of what he told me about his riding history, and afterwards I realized how foolish I had been, even though in this case it turned out O.K. So don't feel too bad about it, but do put all necessary moral pressure on your mate to do the right thing!

Well at least your mate got lucky, When my mate took the bike without asking and dumped the clutch, he didn't swerve in time and so ended up bouncing the bike off his neighbours car. Very expensive f**k-up. But that bike is gone and lost money on the sale because of fairing damage. Lucky for me the only thing he broke was the cluck lever and alloy bracket which was less that $100 to fix. If you thinking about painting consider a home job if you know how . to be perfectly honest tho, even if you had of agreed i would have turned it into a joke as i dont want to ride another machine that i dont own atm, but wouldnt have minded you taking the beast around
