Buy an old clunker and para rubber/tornado wet weather gear weather really isn't that much of a problem . It pissed down at Dannivirke. Glad I got the ride in before the thunderstorm arrived at home though.

Manawatu Gorge. If you ever get a chance Manawatu Gorge-Woodville-Pongaroa-Webber-Dannevirke-back road to Woodville-Saddle Rd is a nice circuit. Some winge about the road conditions on the Saddle but that just makes it more interesting. Just be aware of stock, tractors, 4x4s/tintops on the wrong side of the road and other natural road hazards .

Me and my Bro' just got back from our first ride of 2005 on the dirt bikes (I'm still running Mrs Merv's DR in for her you see). The weather was a bit wet so I didn't even bother taking my flash digital camera in case it got wet.

We went over the 'takas to Martinborough then on to Bell Tea corner up the hill climb road and on to Te Wharau then over the gravel road, nice one it is too, and on to Riversdale. The rain was cramping the style of the young teenies there so we had lunch under the canopy at the fast food joint come store with a whole mob of them. Not much to do at the beach on a day like that.

We returned on the main route but then turned off to go via Waionouru back to the hill climb road and then back to Martinborough and a coffee at the Flying Fish. We never saw any other bikes on the road at all anywhere except one Guzzi (not PaulinNZ) went by while we were at the Fish. So only us dumbasses on dirt bikes and a Guzzi rider were out today it seemed in our area. Then we returned over the 'takas and it was raining over our side too whereas it had been dryish when we left.

So we started off the New Year with a ride like Bonez with similar looking weather to contend with. At least when you know its wet you dress accordingly.

    Have fun in 2005 everyone.
    Cheers

    Merv
