He's not in NZ (but then neither am I) but Sam ('Stu') does terrific helmet art work at a really decent price.

This is the most recent helmet he's done for me ('s got my 'Evil Twin' looking out the back at ya - funny thing, cars tend to not tailgate me when I'm wearing this)

If you look at the series of photos you can see he strips the helmet right down to the shell to do a great job. (This was a Shoei, but he did 'Neurosurgical' and 'Craniotomy' art for me a few years back on two Arai Signets).

how much does it cost for custom paint - I mean ballpark?
It’s diametrically opposed to the sanitised existence of the Lemmings around me in the Dilbert Cartoon hell I live in; it’s life at full volume, perfect colour with high resolution and 10,000 watts of amplification.

Depends how much detail is involved, but between $500-700 , worth every cent once you have seen how good he is, he can spend 30-40 hours on a helmet, does it after hours, more of a hobby than a business , hes a good guy , not a wanker, and hes into bike too

Mark is a good mate, and his work is THE SHIT! His prices aren't cheap, but if ya see his work you'll see why. He Has a list of clients a mile long, including most of NZ's top car racers. Be prepared for a bit of a wait though, he's usually booked a fair while in advance.
If yer keen pm me and I'll give ya his no.
