It is likely that on the Sunday I will leave the group somewhere to head back to the Naki to get home before dark.

If anyone else is thinking of heading some or all of that way on Sunday let me know as it is always nicer riding with someone else.

    Bags be in front!
Well at present there are 14 registered, plus another 5 who have indicated they are/may be coming. For the first section through the Waipunga I'll lead the group as the navigation is of the 'you gotta know to understand' variety, but for the rest of the trip I'll be posting up some maps & route instructions for people to print out & bring along. This will allow everyone to cruise at their own pace between designated meeting points.

Yep, that's the one. The Rangitaiki Tavern. It is cabins & they do evening meals. I'm going to call them up today to confirm the booking & enquire about breakfast options.

On the subject of food, I think given the numbers we'll cook up our own feed on Saturday night. I'll just get everybody to bring an ingredient or 2. Does anybody have any objection to spaghetti bolognese?

For Sunday breakfast you can BYO weetbix etc, or do 30km pre breakfast & stop at the cafe in Matawai.

    Cheers
    Clint

    Fuel range. Rangataikei to........

Hey Clint, whats the fuel location details?
Rangataiki got a pump? Any fuel stops prior to the lake Waikerimoana pump?
I got a fuel range of about 280km, but nice to know a pump is about near the 250 mark.

Could be a bit like a horse race - whenever we stop the food can be redistributed, those who have the speed up front can slowly be given more and more of it to handicap them, that will make sure we all get there around the same time!

Great idea Clint for food, bags not me being the kitchen b!tch ha ha

There's no gas at Rangitaiki, meaning you'll only need a 180km range to get from Taupo to Waikaremoana where there definitely is gas at the motor camp. Wairoa to Matawai is a similar distance.

Newsflash - mass sobriety narrowly averted!

Bloody Hell! That was close! I just called up the Rangitaiki Tavern to confirm the booking & enquire about breakfast, apparently breakfast is a no go. Also, contrary to earlier info, dinner ain't gunna happen, and it turns out that the place has actually been shut down by the licensing authorities & the health dept and there's NO BLOODY BEER either

So I called up the Rangitaiki Lodge just down the road, who luckily were vacant so we'll all fit in there. There are 2x twin units at $35/head & a bunkroom with 5 bunks @ $15/head. First in best dressed. That leaves me but I'll find a spot for my thermarest so no worries there.

They don't normally open in the evening but are happy to accomodate groups so there'll be a big 2 course roast dinner on offer at $22.50, & the bar will be OPEN

Unfortunately, breakfast is still not on the menu, so bring your weetbix.

    Cheers
    Clint

    Well done that man!!

So you mean it is down the road on the way to Napier (so go past, heading East, where you originally planned for us to stay)?

It looks as though Triboy and I will be riding over together so I will take the other bed in that room please.

Not to fussed about contacting you then were they Clint.

    Bags a bed!!

Lucky we got anything, let alone a beer!

Think it's worth bringing a bed roll just in case we're short of beds, think i could squeeze it on the Tiger (not that i'm volunteering for the floor!)

No worries, the Lodge is actually 5km West, towards Taupo, from the pub & on the other side of the road.

Nah, you should be right, there are definitely 9 beds there, 10 staying, & my comfy new thermarest will do me fine.

    Cheers
