Frame sliders?

This is a completely unknown topic for me so can anyone explain please?

From searching it appears that knobs made of metal or plastic can be bolted on to:

the bar ends

the swinging arm

the front axle

the frame

Having a sports tourer which has fallen off its sidestand a couple of times

I'm interested in protecting all the very expensive plastic and metal which modern bikes are made of.

So - sliders - are they a good idea? Anyone use them? Do they work? Any suggestions?

You'll find some people who say that sliders/bungs saved their bike from far worse damage, and you'll find those who say that sliders/bungs caused a simple slide to turn into a costly tumble.

handy objects to protect the bike from small crashes/fall overs.

downside is when crashes they can dig in to ground and flip the bike and do more damage, or in turn, damange engine mount area, so requires a new frame. But the advanges in them out way the negitives i believe.

Some bikes require cutting of fairing to make them work, there are also some cheap ones which just mount in same place as fairing bolts, but they are not very good in crashes, frame sliders/bungs etc should be bolted to the frame via engine mount bolt or simlar.

Maybe they are a good option for you

I have them on my bike to protect the exposed engine, bolted via engine mount bolt as per banana's post.

The Duke has a very small foot on the sidestand which I intend to remedy.

I'm trying to picture how sliders would fit with panniers. The possibility of flipping over makes me pause although that presumes a soft surface to dig into. I haven't noticed sliders on many bikes which might mean most people don't rate them.

There are all sorts of sliders if you want to go mad.

I just had the frame mounted pair on my last bike and they shouldn't be anywhere near the panniers.

The frame sliders were mint when I sold the bike, as were the CRG levers etc because the bike never fell over.

Sliders for a VFR cost over $600 because they are mounted so as to protect the radiators. At that price I didn't bother. So of course I dropped the VFR.

Ah well...
