biker & wife go down 8-(

just heard through the grapevine so details are sketchy but a guy i worked with has gone down with his mrs on the back. apparently he has had his leg amputated so far & the mrs in critical condition. i hope things turn out ok. the guy is a very experienced rider. sounds like a van crossed the centreline around waihi way somewhere 8-(. careful out there everyone.

    Crap... that's not good.

I often worry about something like that happening when I've got the wife on the back - don't mind so much if I get wasted (though I'd rather not), but it'd be awful if she was hurt.

Let us know if you hear anything, 750Y.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Ouch mate, wish them all the best from us in the South Island
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

I know what you mean bro! Back in '90 I was 2 up with the missus when we rode over a container truck oil spill! The truck had its valve left open and was travelling from the port to the warehouse and left a trial of cooking oil along one lane of the road for over 10km. Anyways, we lowsided and the only thing I could think abt was that my wife was ok!! But somehow she managed to land on top of me back and I was on fours with me leg jammed on the peg and being dragged for like 10-20m. She got off with a few scratches around her ankles which was cool!

    I on the other hand.....

    Well, hope they recover well!!

For sympathisers information the Hawkes Bay Ulysses Branch Co-ordinator issued this statement:

Brian and Shirley Clearkin were involved in an accident in Auckland with a 4x4 vehicle, the driver taking his eyes off the road to adjust his radio, crossed the centre line and hit them and then sending them to collide with a lamp post. Both are in Middlemore Hospital.
Brian unfortunately has lost his lower right leg below the knee and has broken his hip.
Shirley has internal fractures and damage to her right leg.
Shirley in ward 18, Brian in 19 and will remain until stabilised before being transferred to the Hawkes Bay Hospital.
Cards have been sent to them on behalf of the Branch.
