    Vin Number for a BSA

    Hi
I am looking for a vin number for my newly purchased BSA BAntam (wishing ot verify what I have been told about the bike). I have checked a few sites but dont seem to find the vin range. I am able to confirm that it is a spring frame. Does anybody have a good site to go to or whom would best to contact?
I have take on the great restoration project that I have dreamed and dreaded about for a long time and like most things it is nice to know the history.
    PS the bike was de-reg.
    Thanx

So the bike was previously registered in New Zealand? Do you know the old rego number? Testing station may be able to help? Does it have chassis and engine numbers?

There is a good chance it does not have a VIN number.

The VIN tags are a recent thing and the bike would never have had one in the old days. I think they appeared around early 90's.

My TR6C was imported and has no VIN because it was registered first before they were required. I always use the frame number which is the one that matters to LTSA. If you have the original rego plate and paperwork you can prove it was a NZ bike you might not need a VIN.

If the history is your concern. Go here

Police can check the history to let you know if it has been involved in any fines etc

VTNZs can tell you about it from the frame number....

Yep, and if you re-rego it you will get a VIN to go along with it all....Get the frame number checked out by the above places, and you ought to be able to tell. Once you rego it, I think you get a list of the last 10 owners. LTSA should be able to supply you with a complete history, but I'm not sure, as I've never done it before...

It's been about 12 years but none of my British bikes had VIN numbers.
LTSA will no doubt be only to happy to provide you with one.
    Good luck on the rebuild.
