What shall I do for a new bike?

Need some advise please, sold the TL1000s some months back and I am now in the market for a new road bike.

My picks so far.

Triumph 675
cbr1000rr
Ducati749
R6

second hand of course.

Advise on which one please. Good and bad points,servicing, tyre wear, anything really.

I'm a Yamaha boy but if I had the option I think i'd take the 675

Its really up to you, test and see which fits you best. I too am a yamaha fan and reckon an 07 R6 would be my choice from your list, they are a blast to ride, not as uncomfortable as i thought at lower speed, great induction noise and amazing handling.
Have ridden an 07 cbr1000, was pretty nice too, found the feed back through the bike to be a bit vague though, may have bin the set up/tyres and also the fact that i was probabley used to my R1.
So yeah test ride, and test ride n test ride some more, have fun and find that new ride, heaps of time summer is still a wee way off

I think you have to test ride them to decide which you prefer as they are all such different beasts. However the 749 is a real bargain due to a large number of 'Ducatisti' purists casting doubts over the design abilities of Pierre Terreblanche (they all preferred Massimo Tamburini's work on the 748, 916, 996 which has pushed the used price of a quality 749 way down). The engine in the 749 is pretty solid too from what I've heard and Ducati's reputation for being unreliable hasn't really been true since 1991.

In short I would choose the 749 out of that bunch...but then that's just me.

In terms of tyre and chain wear I would suggest that the CBR1000 would tear up tyres and stretch chains most readily out of those 4. The R6 and 675 would probably be on a par with each other at the lower end of tyre wear and the 749 would prolly chew through slightly more tyres and chains than the smaller IL4 engines due to the nature of the torque curve.

But you'll be the one riding it so go and test them all if you can!

The original Michelin whatever piece of crap only lasted 4500km. I replaced it with a Metzeler Z6, which is a sports/touring tyre (that gripped and worked better than the standard Michelin crap anyhow)... and have got 8000 kms so far, and will probably end up getting 9 to 10 k out of it.

shit.. 10.000km is only a years riding and Ive had the same tyre on my M50 fo 17,000km, its either an IRC or a Cheng Shin, the stock tyre
