Well... Its been a crazy year since the ZXR was stolen.
Took me a few months to decide what to do with the bike after I brought it back from the insurance co. About November last year I decided to build it into a streetfighter.
Its been a mission and a huge learning curve too.
Some of the work done:
New engine
Modified top triple clamp to accomodate risers and dirt bars
Z1000 mirrors
Zeta mirror mounts
Powdercoated rear sets and rocker cover
Aftermarket race pegs (black ones and spare gold ones)
Iridium spark plugs
New battery
New radiator
Homemade radiator guard
New paint job (black of-course)
Modified tank (ground off air holes and welded in mesh)
Gold race spec chain
13T front sprocket
New braided brake lines and banjos
Painted triple clamps (and bits ground off)
Aftermarket little headlight
Aftermarket digital instruments
Polished pipe and re-riveted pipe
New stearing head bearings
New rear wheel bearings
New sprocket carrier bearings
New ignition/tank cap/pillion seat locks
New seals, o-rings and diaphram for fuel tap
Shitloads of new bolts
Re-covered leather seat and pillion seat
New aftermarket indicators
636 gold gear shift rod
Blue anodised oil filler cap
New sidestand
And more bling bits which are too small to be worth mentioning here...
All up over 80 hours have been put into just cleaning parts (the engine and the header pipes taking up the most time).
Had to send the ZXR off to an engineer to straighten the subframe, swingarm and frame from the crash damage...
Finally got the bike road legal yesterday.
Still having some teething problems with the bike. The throttle return is sticking and the bike just revs all the time regardless of being in neutral and having the clutch in, it just revs to redline... which only started happening when I was riding it home last night...
So right now trying to figure out how to get the bike back to work so we can play with it some more...
All in all I'm stoked with the progress made. I think the bike looks shit hot and for the 10-odd minutes last night that it didn't have any problems I was grinning from ear to ear... its good to be a biker again...
Thanks to the streetfighter boys for all the advice and encouragment while nearly everyone else was laughing at me and thinking I was wasting my time and money... Thanks to Allan at Mt Eden for all his help with the bike and to Mt Eden motorcycles for all the support and advice (and shitloads of parts).
