    Bike spots?

In the UK, 1970s, early 80s, people used to ride their bikes for miles and meet at Matlock Bath in Derbyshire for no reason whatsoever. Eat, then disappear. It was a nice ride out and great to see every type of bike imaginable. There was never any trouble, no gang stuff, mostly groups of 1-3 riders only, and I should know as my family lived in/near that area for years. Over time it slowly waned and I doubt there is anyone there at all these days.

Is there anywhere like that here in NZ? It would be good to 'claim' a spot and just go there and park up for a short time. I have seen a few bikes up after Orewa, off the main road somewhere towards a place beginning with P maybe - can't remember, but there is a pub there. Not that I drink.

The equivallent to Matlock would be a place like Mission Bay, you know, like, 1000 bikers stealing all the parking spots. Surely wouldn't go down too well though. Is there anywhere like that here?

Not to that extent, but off the top of my head:
    Puhoi Pub
    Rimutaka Summit

Call into Coroglen tavern on the CoroGP on a good day theres quite a few bikes.

Or if you are nearish to Tirau, the okororie hotel is a mean spot. The Tauranga crew go there every thursday in the summer, often at the weekends for a quick squirt, and we never ride by without stopping for a pint!

that would be cool. I remember as a boy living in Porirua our old house was a starting point for many bikes........ My brother use to ride. I think he still has old GS1000 still sitting in his shed in CHCH lol.
we use to get around 30 bikes there on a nice quiet Sunday morning then they would ride of on a day trip some where. Meeting other bikes on the way. That was great.

Rimutex in Upper Hutt and the Fush at Martinborough should be added to the list.

I too have always wished there was just a 'default' bikers hangout, it just seems... fun :P
I don't know, just the thought of going at any given time to a certain destination and knowing there'll always be bikers there ready for a ride or just to talk up a storm with, I really wish there was a default meeting place in the middle of nowhere, somewhere.
