Re-vinning/re-compliance

Ok, here's the deal.

I am thinking of buying an ex-postie CT110, however the seller never registered the bike when he bought it, so the rego lapsed and now it's off the system. So it's got to be taken into VTNZ to do a compliance test so I can use it on the road.

Never done one before so I don't have a clue but I rang them up and they mentioned $260 bucks and plus whatever else it needs (brake compliance test... etc..). Also asked them if they have a inspection check list that I can download so I can make sure when I take the CT in, that it's in top form.
I would hate to pay $260 and then have it rejected.

Finally, will I get away with registering a CT110 as a moped? If so, how?

moped restrictions is 50cc, and 2kw(i think), and top speed of 50kmhr, so a no go there.

$260 sounds like a cheap recompliance, we were quoted about $500 to put a kr1 back on the road. So i guess if you go through with it make sure you get an actuall quote, dont let them go cowboy and charge you heaps. But yeh ther is always the chance itll get rejected (retest might be cheaper?) but if you fix it up good as you shouldnt have any problems.

$260 is just for the inspection and that's the quote I got from VTNZ Henderson. I would'n't know if anybody else does compliance test, if better and cheaper, AA perhaps? They mentioned if the bike requires a brake compliance test then that's additional, but they will test the brakes first to see if it requires one. Thing is, VTNZ can't issue a do brake compliance themselves, as it has to come from an indepedent party (bike mechanic).


One thing I am gonna do is make sure the CT is up to road worthy standards so it flys thru the inspection. Any body has the direct LTNZ link for motorcycle compliance test? Or if you done compliace tests before and got the inspection sheet, that would be even better.

I mean, how hard is it to inspect a CT110?

A friend put a cb550 back and it took months. It flagged up 'crash damage' and had to be re inspected before being revinnned. The guy reinspecting charged around $500 for something the bike mechanic shop could have just as easily verified. Whole thing came to almost $1000. Bit of a cash cow for the Gov but that's nothing new.

I think you find tat the $260 is plus GST.

I have done a couple of compliances myself. You need to make sure that the CT110 is exactly to the original spec. I got picked up for different coloured brake cables and had to get a letter from Suzuki to say that they were original and it was a fluke in the particular rev. My Tiger had the VIN in the wrong place (OK once they found it) but the point is that they will be looking for points to fail you. You would be better off (safer) getting a Honda dealer to get it done for you.

What year is the bike?? If less thatn two years old you may be able to get a letter of compliance from Honda NZ --that will save you a lot of hassle
