Fluoro Vests

Got an orange one somewhere. One of those ones that roadie crews use. Done my stint as a navvy. Sometimes pack a fluro arm band in the kit on long trips. Used it a couple of times.

my bike is bright orange (like Krusti's here ) and I wear a blue jacket with reflective strips, and the bikes aren't quiet. If they can't see me, they shouldn't be on the road (which accounts for a lot of drivers!)

Here's something to try for yourself. Next time you see a bike coming towards you with its headlight on, try and see what the rider is wearing BEFORE you actually get to him (or her). Its almost impossible to even see a flouro vest from the front.

From the rear it is possible to pick up a flouro vest before you actually pull out and pass that other bike, but then coming from the rear there is so much more time to see a bike anyway.

I believe that most instances of cage drivers not seeing bikes is when approaching an intersection. In this instance a flouro vest may make a difference, but somehow I doubt it. The cage driver still wont see a bike because they aren't looking for a bike. They are only looking for something bigger than what they drive.

Yep! Might as well come in here with my tuppenyworth... the "nine" is also flouro so Ive resisted that temptation to go out and by a vest. It was a toughy though...NOT! I ride with my headlight on because as we all know green Kawasakis go far too fast, and much faster than any other colour. (isnt that right BJ?) But then I ride like a wuss anyway. (Im the only one to have ridden the Nurburgring and been overtaken by a van!)
An alternative to the vest is the god awful "Sam Brown" flourescent over the shoulder strappy round the waist thingy. Do they have them over here?

I wouldnt wear one for commuting. maybe If it was dark or poor weather. but Ive got a purple bike + black jacket with relective piping (apparently) and a bright white/green/orange/yellow helmet (its an old racing one)

damn straight.. But I can't turn my headlight off, there's no switch for it on the new bikes. Can make them brighter, but can't turn them off all together
Shame about the Nurburgring. Were you walking at the time? I'd love to have a go at that track. I need a Mastercard, cos they always price everything up - one return ticket to Germany - $, one return fare for the 636 - $, a week of 'open day' entry fees to the Nurburgring - $, fuel and tyres for the week - $, leathers and sliders - $, paying for it for the rest of your life? priceless.

Stats over seas have indicated that silver cagers are lease (sic) likely to be involved in accidents...

Surprises the hell outta me! I guess the silver cage drivers overseas are smart enough to turn their farking lights on in the fog - here (at least the dorks around Hamilton) they drive in their silver cages in the fog with their lights off and don't seem to realise they blend into the fog VERY WELL...

Why oh why are so many cages painted in the following colours:
"Fog White", "Fog Silver" and "Tarmac Black"?

And why do so many dorks drive them without lights under poor visibility conditions?
