well i heard back from the mechanic today.....does anyone out there maybe have a spare carberator lying around? he said he should have it going 2moro with a patch up job but with somethng like this its only a matter of time and I need to be prepared, so is there anyone?
Ok, i have had my bike at the mechanics for the past 3 weeks, they have replaced one of the carbs, both sprockets, the chain and the front brake pads, i went to pick it up on Friday and it still wasnt going they spent 3 hours pissinfg around with it but didt come to anything conclusve, they just sent me on my way saying it was only the gearing being a lil higher, well it wasnt that, by the time i got home it wouldnt idle, it was backfireing every few seconds and i was aving to ride the cltch just to get home (i live up a hill) so my questions are, do i jhave any right to go back and tell them to fix it properly, without being slapped with another huge bill, and does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? please help, i havent had it for soo long, all i want to do is go for a ride.........:'(
Buy a workshop manual for that model bike. It tells you step by step how to do stuff on your bike. Copy pages of stages you are on so pages dont get oil stained...has worked for me many times. Rebuilt a GS1000 motor and the day of completion .... rode it to Nelson from Central Otago. If I can so can you...

I got a 89 rgv 250 as well mate and I just put her back on the road a month ago. Sure it is an old bike and it might got a few problem just piss you aroundBut once it been setup right mate, it will be the one of the most scary 250 you ever ride.
What you really need to do I think maybe you should find a good reliable mechanics to have a look, they probably can tell you what's the problem and how much you need to spend. Then you can figue out that you wanna keep it or not.

Sounds to me it has to be something simple that the mechs are missing ! Yr all but there with fixing it up ! Find an old mech who done his time on the two strokes ! Mower shops are a good place to look !!!! Do ya homework in finding the right mechanic ! one who can confuse the shit out of you with his knowledge of the bike !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"
Bowls can wait !
I vote 'fix it'. I hear those RGVs are scary as shit to ride. However you must consider that it is a two stroke, and can be temperamental at times![]()
I have had a few of these and fucken love them. Last one was a genuine pepsi model(very quick bike). When you manage to get it to rev out does it go good or does it feel flat? what oil you running?(should run good expensive stuff in her the they love it and the cheap stuff will f@#k it). Before it started running like a bag did it all of a sudden start going really really good?
