    A dirty love affair...

    Hey all,

I have (finally) gone and bought a new bike! The Chinese "motorbike" just wasn't cutting it. Rattly, annoying, loud and constantly falling to pieces. So I decided that I needed a more reliable, more user-friendly bike. So I went and bought...

    Wait for it.....

    A 1985 Yamaha RZ250RL!!!!!!!!!

Yay! A dirty wee 2-smoker!!! She is beautiful, sounds amazing and it was love at first ride. She needs a new windscreen and some riding time, because she has sat in a garage for about the past 8 years, with only brief sojourns once every 6 months or so to keep her running! But other than that (and the side fairings that need putting back on) she's good to go!!

Aaahhh. GIJoe, I see why you keep collecting these babies!!

Still looking for a name, I guess she'll tell me soon enough!

Just dropped her off to Street & Sport in Chch for a tune up and general check over...

Quite nervous as to what Glen & the boys will find wrong with her... Hopefully not much!!

An ELSIE?! How is that an improvement?!

Actually, just short of the power-band kick, they're very smooth and quiet and civilised. Quite surprised. Possible to cruise almost silently along the motorway in complete comfort.

I'm glad I can cause a whole heap of flash-backs with this beast!!!

Right... I have heard from the mechanics, and I am in need of the following parts:
    - Handlebars, these ones are bent
    - Gear Selector, mine is quite worn and has a lot of play
    - Oil pump (to mix the 2 stroke), mine has split the internal seals

Anyone who has or knows of where I can get these parts PLEASE let me know!!

And a big BLING for Street & Sport motorcycles on Manchester Street in Christchurch. A great job done quickly, cheaply and Garth didn't mind explaining slowly.... so I could understand! Cheers boys!

Bend them back? Done it a few times on the 250. Not ideal but if you dont have much cash.
    - Gear Selector, mine is quite worn and has a lot of play
as in the bt you push with foot or bit in the gearbox?
    - Oil pump (to mix the 2 stroke), mine has split the internal seals
I dont see how you are going to get around that one.

Anyone who has or knows of where I can get these parts PLEASE let me know!!

Yeah, I have thought about bending the bars back myself. I'll have to have a look at how bad they are..

The gear selector you press with your foot. Apparently the spline could be quite worn.

Not planning on getting around it. Presently I am pre-mixing the 2 stroke in the petrol tank, but that is a bit of a pain.

I am not necessarily looking for 2nd hand parts, but having a hard time finding a dealer who can stock new parts for such an "old" bike!

Try a pm to Stanko he has a few bits for these bikes

Muwahaha! Welcome to the dirty two stroker smoker world ... Nice looking ride you got there matey! I almost bought another RZ the other week! but sanity got the better of me and I remembered I have two others I have to restore up first!

As for spares... they are mine! All mine! I think they crop every now and then at dismantlers and ebay definitely a good starter.

Have fun riding and enjoy that powerband!
