    Buell Race Kit fitted....

    Hi Guys,

Well I recently purchased a 04 XB12R which was all stock.Rode around and enjoyed the bike but it was bit quiet so after sourcing the necessary parts I did an upgrade and installed the Buell Race muffler,Race ecm and K&N filter. Now the bike is a different beast and sounds a hell of a lot better, downside is its a pig to start when its cold so I was just wondering there are any other XB owners out there will the Buell race kit and how there bikes are performance wise? and if they have any advice on improvements?

    Cheers

    race kit

my wife has an '04 XB12S, and it has the race kit fitted.

It generally runs like a haunted sh!thouse at low speed.

It's loud, grumpy around town, idles like a cement mixer with shot bearings, and my wife loves it. On the open roads around where we live it's a barrel of fun.

Her bike starts OK from cold or hot, so you might want to check your battery condition, spark plugs and general checkover. We run her bike on 98 and find that it runs a little happier on that.

    YMMV etc

You'll have to get the TPS re-set at Wellington Motorcycles if you havnt done so already.

    Hi Again,

Thanks for the replies so far, just to make it more interesting as well as fitting the race parts I did my own TPS and AFV resets using my laptop Ecmspy software and a cable that connects to my XB, this software also provides the ability to make changes to the fuel maps but that parts beyond me for the moment. Anyway its due for a WOF so I'll get Bruce and the boys at WGTN M/C's to check her out I think I might have set the idle too low when I did the TPS reset I love the topend now though.

    Cheers O1

Try blocking half of the muffler with your hand while pressing the starter.. a little back pressure may help

You could try your boot... but yeah, the hand technique maybe a little awkward on a buell

Might be too loud to pass a wof

Talking to a friend who owns a bike shop the other day and he said the new noise restrictions are now in force (95db max). If it is over that you will fail your WOF test.

Dwnundabkr good luck with your tuning, there's certainly plenty of info on the WWW,just backup your maps....
Yeah Muzzle, not really worried I've got all the original bits and if I fail there will be a few HD's who will do the same.

Well, like AJ says he has an 04 and its got a perfect setup. I have ridden it round the Sth Is and it never missed a beat/failed to start and it NEVER ran like a dog. Primo bike, fires first time and idles away beautifully, no probs...

Sounds like something simple like yr idle. My first thought was the TPS but you reckon you have done that right so...

OH BTW they are supposed to sound lumpy (within reason), its that v-twin throbbing thing...
