New Zealand's world No 1 Katherine Prumm will attempt to write a piece of motocross history when she attempts to become the first woman to qualify and participate in the men's Dutch championship.

Prumm, who has been based in the Netherlands since mid-March to prepare for the five-round world championship this year, will pit herself against Holland's best at the third round of the series at Rhenen on May 1.

The 19-year-old from Pukekohe, who also expected to race a number of world MX2 championship riders at Rhenen, said she had completed tests on her new Yamaha YZ250F run by the Van Beers racing team.

"After tests in Italy and in the sand at Dunkirk in France, I want to sharpen my race speed in preparation for the first round of the women's world championships on May 11 in Bulgaria.

"I have been in Europe for quite a while now and we are just looking for some races to contest before going to Bulgaria.

"I have been doing a lot of training and getting the bike set-up.

"Rhenen will be a big challenge and something I am really looking forward to.

"I am not daunted by the track but obviously the level of competition is going to be very high and there will also be some of the top guys from the world championship in there also.

"To qualify would be an achievement and I will certainly try my best."

Katherine Prumm confirmed for Flanders trophy in Tongeren-Berg.

Women’s MX cup world champion, Katherine Prumm, has a busy scheduled ahead of her. The Yamaha Van Beers racer has also confirmed her participation in the Flanders trophy to be held on Sunday 4 May in Tongeren, Belgium.

The 19-year-old New Zealander, will also attempt to make history by being the first woman to qualify for a Dutch championship when she takes part in the Jumbo MX2 Dutch championship on 1 May in Rhenen in the Netherlands.

Both these events are seen as good preparation for the opening round of the Women’s FIM world championship which will kick off in Bulgaria in less than two weeks time and Prumm intends to make the most out of racing against some of the best MX2 men racers in the world.

“I'm excited to be racing in Tongeren and hope to learn a lot from racing in the Inters MX2.” commented the Kiwi. “The competition will be some of the toughest I have faced and I am using it as training and for learning. The hard-pack surface will be good preparation for Bulgaria. I have no expectations of where I will finish as I have not competed in the Belgium Championships before. My goal is to learn a lot and be out there giving it my best. If I give 110% then I will be happy and hopefully I can do well against the men."
