I commute daily on my SRX 600. It's getting on for 18 years old, rattles a bit but bloody economical and very nimble for those filtering chores. When the weather gets skanky I'll take the car. Sometimes I take the XJR because it needs a run. I also have free parking out of the weather for my bikes.

Walk to work, save the bike for a weekend treat. By about Thursday find I start getting keen and hanging out, counting the sleeps to go.

I commute on the bike about 60% of the time. 11 kms takes me 9 minutes on the bike or 11 minutes in the truck. With the time taken to put on jacket, helmet etc, they both end up about the same. But the bike IS more fun.

20kms to work in Rotorua was just ahout right on my Guzzi, and the 10km up Dansey Road only took 4 minutes :spudbooge ... but it was 2 hours on a bicycle ... NO ! ...NO ! ...NO !

Now its ten minutes to work over the harbour bridge in Auckland, and I love being on the VF every day ... its the only way to make it through the rush hour traffic ! and I also have free undercover accomodations for the bike in the city ...

Commute ? Isnt that something people on four wheels do. I can see their faces in my rear view mirrors as I move up to the front of the line at the lights ....h commutting is obviously a really bad experience! .... now lok at the faces of the motorcyclists as they shoot down the left hand lane, move into the lane to go up to Cook Street .. cant possibly be commutting. They are too damn happy! 6km, ten minutes, the four sets of lights between the Norh Shore and the central city. There is no traffic, so there cant possibly be any commuting ... except of course for the Harleys cause they are too wide to get through the traffic ... oops I forgot .. Harley riders drive cars to work!

I ride the bike to work nearly every day - all of 2km tops. Barely warms up. But if I dont have the bike at work, I cant go out for a ride at lunchtime, which I do most days. The bike is always the prefered form of transport, only use the cage when I have to.

    Hi All,

Yup, I run the gauntlet of the North Western every day, been doing it for 4 months or so since the wife stole the cage..undercover parking @ work and $7 or so gas...cant complain... cats eyes can be a bit slippery in the rain while filtering and avoiding maruading SUVs...

    Unhappy company car

would rather commute on my bike but I have a company car and don't think the boss would be happy with " I left the car at home today Boss because it was such a nice day I decided to bring the bike"

Well, hey, you do that and he doesn't have to pay for the gas, right?

Won't work if you have to do the sales-rep-drivey-around-thang during the day, of course.

Used to before I blew up the engine on the LS and then completely failed to get the GSX running for more than 2 minutes at a time. That was when I was living out near Tauwhare, 20mins ride in to central Hamilton. Now live in town and walk 40mins each way. Live closer, take longer to get there.

Would still commute by motorbike if I had one.

Used to have co-workers saying "isn't it too wet to be riding a motorbike?" when I'd roll in during the winter. Funny thing was: I'd be nice and dry after removing all my waterproofing while they were still wet after running from the car to the building in the pouring rain. Can't figure cager "logic" some days. It wasn't me that was standing by the heater, steaming slightly.

Love commuting by bike - even in the wet.
    Motorbike Camping for the win!
