    Vigilante groups in South Auckland

While I completely understand the reason why Mr Low has got a group organised to patrol South Auckland is anyone else besides me concerned that the criminal sector of Asian society will jump on the "protection" bandwagon and start muscling in here (if they haven't already)?
Seems to me that they only likely 'winners' out of all this crime escalation and the spin off (read "moves to do something about it other than by the government") will be the instigators of crime themselves, not the poor innocent law-abiding citizens whose rights to a peaceful life are being viciously eroded.

I am definately against unnecessary vigilante groups. Unfortunately when all confidence is lost in the police, and the police force is more often seen to be a part of the problem rather than of any use in protecting citizens, and all confidence is lost in the justice system, with punishments seeming miniscule relative to the crime comitted, then the only option left is vigilante action.

It appears that there is currently a need for justice in New Zealand, and if the government are both unwilling and unable to provide it, then the duty falls upon the citizens. I would have no moral qualms with delivering what I considered a suitable punishment to someone who offended against me or my family, but I would probably feel uneasy joining an organised vigilante group.

There is a world of difference between citizen patrols watching and calling in police (what Mr Low and co are doing), and a vigilante group.

What Mr Low is doing is like proactive neighbourhood watching - and has proven extremely sucessfull overseas.

vigilante groups on the other hand are bad mkaaaay.

If all the good people moved out of south auckland, we could all sit back and watch it self destruct.

I wont even venture there let alone live there.. lol

something has got to change. The cops really cant do a thing to protect mr joe ordinary while he is walking the street.

Do we arm ourselves or something ? I for one have had a complete guts full of it. If some prick had another go at me in public I don't know what I'd do.

Cant say i have a major issue with the "vigilante" We all need to help the police stamp out crime and not sit on the sideline comeing up with reason why the cops are shit.

That said if the vigilanties become criminal themselvers well thats just show the mentality of the neighbour hood (OOOOO im going to get shit for that statement)

yeah well spare a thought for use mere ordinary citizens who get cornered, threatened, and bashed, who are at our fucking wits end, and are ready to arm ourselves as well. Your comment only adds to our already massive emotional loading, but really I think thats why you did it. GRRRR very angry.

True, I agree with you. The "vigilante" tag came from the media (surprise surprise), but 'tis only a small step by one or two zealots.....

Oh let us lesser beings bow before you oh elevated privileged one. On the other hand the privileges are probably outweighed by the scuzzier parts of the job you have to do. Can I borrow your handcuffs? Pretty please?

Hence why I CHOOSE to live in a part of the country that is a frozen antarctic wasteland populated with predominantly southern redneck types.

The weather is crap but the people ain't.

And the roads less busy and cops thinner on the ground and.....oh, I better stop...

Those are Sikhs talking not Japanese. Y'know. Sikhs ! Aliwal. Sobraon. Ranjeet Singh, the Lion of the Punjab.

In so far as such concepts can be applied to a race or religion, the Sikhs are probably the toughest and bravest fighters there are. (OK, yeah, Ghurkas. Not many of them though. Or old school Rajput). (And incontestably the worlds best gunners )

If they decide that they need to defend themselves because the police can't or won't do it, the results will be 'interesting' to say the least. And probably bloody.

Generally I agree with the above but I think the Police are caught between a rock and a hard place. If a Cop gets his gun out and shoots some prick who has destroyed the town and is coming at him, he's in the shit.
Catch someone, convict him and he's out in 10 minutes doing the same thing.
This is a social, family values, Society, breakdown thing! The Police are at the bottom of the cliff catching the crap from the crims and the public. Police are more often than not having to be perants not Police in a lot of situations. Some families are so screwed up they are onto their 3rd generation of criminal element. The kids know no better. Its the perants, even if they are bad, they still know the difference between right and wrong, so we must start there. Winston Peters a few years ago tried bring a bill in to do something about making perants accountable but got nowhere.
Most of these criminals are only very young and I reckon the perants should be held Partially accountable as well. We always know where our kids are, and who they are with. Shit even now my 18 year old txt's me to say he's staying at his mates and not coming home. Its just simple respect that has been lost by alot of perants. What brings respect from a child-Time-you have to spend time with them and this is happening less and less. We are now paying the price.
This bloody namby pamby, its no ones fault, bullshit government we have that has, handed all perental power back to the kids and gives the crims more rights than the victim, who is responsable for a lot of it. The police force has been completly been de-powered as well, and we are seeing the results now. And then you say we have lost confidence in the cops, bullshit I say, they have lost confidence in us, to back them!! That's why they are so hesitant!
There's simply no line in the sand any more! In the family structure, in society, in the law. So people are getting sick of it and saying in our area this is the line in the sand lets protect ourselves.

You can agree or disagree- pull the argument apart line by line-as is done on KB- but overall I'm fixed on my views- take it or leave it.

I´ve heard the ¨dont fuck with Sikhs´ before and wouldn´t be surprised.
I hear that Tim Shadbolt (invercargill) has been quacking about police having too much red tape and procedure making their response too slow. Maybe the IVC cops too have been infiltrated by the namby pambies. Wanna southern posting there Scumdog? Make sure you take some woolies, and put them on..!
