The fat tyres won't help either

You just reminded me of a point I meant to raise. You fullers might like to try high tyre pressures when riding in the snow. When we were down south at Queens Birthday weekend I was running 30 psi with well worn D606 tyres and I recon I had better traction than the others I was with when they were running 20psi with much better condition tyres with similar tread patterns.

Point of the higher pressure is that the tyre digs through the snow and grips on the ground underneath rather than sitting on top and spinning.

If any of you can be bothered to try this out I'm keen to get some feedback.

hey R just put the Eo9's on last night had a few moments on the seal but when i got onto our road metal, clay, snow etc wot a ride 140 ish kms & didn't loose it once scared myself sh.... few times (making note get brighter lights) & sucked up the seat when it happened but made it home safe & in one piece with a from ear to ear
I'm running 25 front 30 rear

Work required my presence in Auckland last Wednesday. Flying over North Canterbury there was abit of snow on the tops but behind Hanmer from Jacks Pass north it was solid snow on the ground. Probably a lot thicker today.

Should not be too bad on the big xt as i would think we will more than likely go over jacks pass to save time as we didn't get very far last time due to lots of pushing over jollies. Once over the pass it was fairly easy going.

Remember fullers - the ultimate point of this ride is to try and get to the top of island saddle.

well I tried it today on the way to work & home
I had ice this morning & found if i stayed at or under 40Ks the bike broke through & griped above 40 it was had work staying up right & to night I had both snow & ice when the snow was 2inch or more the psi needs to be less but because of the ice I left it at 30psi
in short it was a very interesting ride home to night but olot of fun

Hmm, I'd have though the high pressures would work best with softer snow or thin ice that can be broken up/squished out of the way. When it is really thick/can't be punched through then I'm not sure what pressures work better.

To put it in context we were riding in about 2-3 inches of snow that was firm but my tires with 30 psi would cut through it where as the other two would float on top and spin. For the snow ride last year I think 30 psi would not have worked cause the snow was compacted (vehicles) and almost as hard as ice.

LOL - one of them is El Scooto (on a ttr 250 raid) who is basically the same size as me and the other was TA (on his DR) so I probably had 10-15kgs on either of them.

What about doin it this weekend guys, sat or sunday. At the mo it looks like myself, TA, shrek are definates with lugzy and skinnyb being possibles. If this weekends not good next is ok for me too.
