    Smile Just a thought>>

Was riding over to Tauranga the other day(via kaimais) when i saw the toll road that cuts off most of the mundayne Cameron Rd traffic when it hit me. When we pay our registration and other road user fees we pay to use the roads, so if we are going to pay more to use a road that technically we have already paid to use does that mean we are free to use the roads how feel. Say can i push the GSF as fast as it will go (not that fast) and not expect to see blue and red lights come screaming up behind me. Just an thought (expect some debate here). Will try it nxt time though.

not withstanding your point, that particular toll road is free for motorbikes

another bonus as there's generally bugger all traffic on it (most locals seem to boycott)

Ah it's a good ride from "The Love" to the might TGA

Ah technically, the road gets paid off by the tolls...well so I have heard..

The idea with toll roads is that someone other than the government or its agency pays for and builds the road. Normally there is a free road as well, but its a hassle to use.

Since its a private road and not owned by the government - they can charge you a toll for using it. Normally to recover the cost of building and maintaining it. Once they have recovered the initial cost - the government then buys it back and the original company makes the profit and the government gets a new road built with out the hassle of doing it itself.

Most major construction projects around the world such as bridges, buildings, damns, hydro stations, air-ports and other such stuff is done like that now.

Of course, it may not be the way its done here. It might just be an idiot government agency trying to fleece consumers for more revenue.

Ain't it interesting how some authorities will not learn from others, or their own history.
Tauranga's Route K (toll road) has a debt which is spiralling out of control. Traffic flow studies have shown there to be a natural public aversion to paying tolls when a viable alternative route exist. Tga council saw this when tolls were lifted off the harbour bridge; they are seeing it again now with Route K.
So, the wonderful folks at Transit are planning a tolled extension to Auckland's Northen motorway :spudwhat: :spudwhat: :spudwhat:

Pick your moment - there seems to be one cop who likes this road as a place to fill his (alleged) quota without doing any work. The others largely ignore it and police roads that people use.
I have personally traversed this road in less than half the recommended time and not seen another vehicle whilst doing so.
