where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

Check how narrow the engine in is in this video.

You get a good look at after the 52 second mark.

Makes my 400 v4 look pretty big and silly. Mind you, that design didn't change all that much between 1986 and 1998.

Now what are the chances that ALL of the Italian words that LBTW knows can literally be put into one sentence? (and then some extra non-iti) ...

He never rode a VF750 for long then, not sure if there are words to describe that motor, other than FUCKED if you didn't have the valve clearances perfect, and the best oil on earth changed daily.

My NC30 treated me well for a couple of years.

Without bothering to check my references, I think one of the problems with the VF series was the cam chain tensioner. So away it went...

That's just one of the problems. The cams and rockers would eat themselves in no time at all without more maintenence than ride time. Went bloody well when it was going though, and it only cost me a bottle of bourbon.

Even Honda have caught up with the times and use cam chains now. The gear idea limits too many things. Ya cant bump compression without shelling out for high comp pistons, bloody honda over technicalising shit.

Horses for courses dude, gears are generally good for more revs, so if that's a big part of the design criteria they might make sense.

I see Buell's new rotax is chain driven to one cam which is gear driven to the other. Means the chain path is straighter, with a simpler tensioner required, cute.
Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon

Fair call, the gear driven second cam idea is a good one, acuracy would be the only issue. An easy tuning method is to have cams "dialed in" on most bikes, since tolerences on mass produced bikes tend to be a tad different, harder indeed with gear drives.

You know some people say "My bike sounds like a Ferrari!" but which isn't? Well this one really sounds like a Carrera GT which I like!
    It sounds very.... aggressive.

If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.
