    What to buy?

Since returning from an overseas trip I have been giving some thought to what to buy. Have been promising myself a new of near new bike. Got a Motorcycle Trader to get some ideas and to read the article on Adam Rickett (Kieran Mitchell on Shortland Street). He bought a Speed Triple and considered a Street Triple. Sounds like my sort of guy - just dreaming and scheming.

No girly bike for me. So what do I buy?? Thinking of naked, sit up, 1000, not too tall. So Speedtriple of Streettriple? Like the Moto Morini, Shiver, Buell something? Don't want a cruiser, tourer, aggressive lie down sprots thing. Do like the triumphs, but is the Speedtriple too powerful?? I don't weigh much so any power may do.

    Hears thinking.
    Game on.

Opinions are like arseholes: Everybody has got one, but that doesn't mean you got to air it in public all the time....

The older 750 Brutale is about 14 to 15K 2nd hand, it's revvier than the 910, more fun in a lot of ways, try an MV if you can, even if you buy a Trumpy. Mvs are quite small, feel like a 250 and handle brilliantly. pm me if you need more details on an MV

Well, it depends on what you've ridden in the past. I'd say if you are used to a 1000, you may miss the torque if you opt to go for, say, the Street triple.

If, on the other hand, you've not had such big bikes, the smaller bike may work for you.

Certainly Finn and DMNTD have got good deals for the MV, which comes with a LOT more componentry and cred, than the Triumph, or maybe a Z1000, Hornet, etc.

And then there's the sound aspect. Do you prefer twins, triples, fours, etc? All part of the riding experience really...

Buy the best, what you like the most, you can justify spending. I tested a Moto Morini Corsaro - very very impressive. That ride tempted me to look at naked bikes again. I had earlier had a test ride on a Hornet - that put me off nakeds for a while.

I bought a Speedtriple after riding the Moto Morini because I really liked it and it had a very flexible engine that will pull in top gear from idle revs. Never ridden a MV but love the look of them and on looks alone would have one. But it came down to a value for money decision - couldn't justify spending the extra 3 - 10k above the price of a Speedtriple. And I am considering buying the new model S3 next summer - unless an MV Brut, Bking, MMorini or something else temps me.
    Here for the ride.

Well it sounds like you have narrowed your choice down to the Speed III or Street III. The Aprilia Shiver is in the same ball park.

I haven't ridden the Street yet but I have ridden the Speed III and although it felt like it had some more grunt off the mark than my 675, I doubt that it was by much. I'd say in a side by side drag the Daytona 675 would beat the SIII, maybe not for the first 2 gears but by third it would be the Daytona. Point I'm trying to make is that the Street's 675 engine should have more than enough go for you without having to fork out another $5000 (new pricing). Also the Street is lighter while still having the same looks.
The footpegs on the Street are more cramped than the Speed III.
Ride them both. Let us all know what way you swung.
