Import a 09 Vmax from the states

Considering the USD $18K and the NZ price is likely to be close to NZD $30K why could we just import 1 for ourselves . Afterall its now 75 cents to the NZ$ , thats if there are any in the states as it seems there arent any demo models .

Oddly enough the first 09 Vmax is coming to a non-Yamaha dealership in my area....the owner of the Ducati/Triumph/BMW shop owns a Yamaha dealership a few states away. The largest Yamaha dealership won't get theirs for a few months afterward.

The weight is going to be a big question mark so I hope my little chicken legs can handle the big pig in slow going.

You're forgetting that the NZ price includes GST at 12.5%, which you would have to pay anyway when you brought it into the country.

    US$18K @ $0.75 exchange rate is NZ$24K.

    Add GST @ 12.5%, equals NZ$27K.

    Add your freight costs...

Add your New Zealand VIN and rego costs...

Add hidden costs (like changing the headlight to dip to the left)...

Still think it's a cheap option? The NZ price mentioned is reflective of actual costs.

Unless you're buying in bulk quantities and can get the bikes at wholesale rates, you're no better off.

In addition to the costs outlined by Virago, you'll also have to pay sales tax on your purchase in the USA.

Although in some states if the product is being taken out of the coountry buy the purchaser the tax is waivered.

But still not that good an idea for a new bike.

    - HOWEVER 2nd hand bikes plummet in price in the US so a second-hand one may be a different story..

you pay GST on the LANDED value of the goods. ie: if the bike cost $24k and the shipping costS are $2k you would pay GST on $26k, not $24k
