Help with new bike

Does anyone on here know about or own one of these Suzuki SMX 50cc bikes. Looking at one because they are registered as a moped and go like stink (90km/hr according to selling). Looking for information on reliabilty, gas consumption, maintenace and all the other guff. All information gratefully recieved. Looking at this in particular.

How can you register a 2.6kw 90km/h 50cc bike as a moped legally and not get a ticket in the future

How can you register a 2.6kw 90km/h 50cc bike as a moped legally and not get a ticket in the future

A guy I knew at uni had one registered as a moped. He got plenty of tickets for riding in a... foolish... manner, but never for having a non-qualifying bike. I don't think that the plod would know the difference.

Well Im of the opinion that if it is already registered as a moped, who am I to argue with it. And also it was most likely limited to 50km/hr when registered, so at the time was legal. Either way Im not too worried. Birdman, I see you are back with a bang, and Im always keen for a new bike, it annoys the missus. Still need a bike to keep in blenheim. Thanks for the info people!

Is it not up to the owner to ensure that the vehicle meets the WOF and Reg requirements for the vehicle (or the other way around the reg meets the specs of the vehicle)? I wouldn't be that keen on arguing the point in a court.

In saying that - its got to be one hell of a lot better at keeping up with traffic than a scooter and is basically the same price. Rode my sisters scooter to work Thursday last week and all I can say is that I'm glad its loud and everybody knows your there. There is no way you can ever get away from cars changing lanes etc without the risk of a rear ending.

Yeah, I will check it out, my decision towards buying it will largely be based on what the LTSA has to say when I ring them about the issue. The whole point of buying it is so I dont have to register two full size bikes at $224 or whatever it is now. Thing that I liked the look of is no WOF required and $75 a year rego

Ride my daughters one occasionly, not too bad on pick up but it's a 125 2smoker, been slightly tweeked too, does the open road speed round here easily (80k's) with me on board.
