From all reports .... the Bel STi seems to be the better of the detectors around.

I don't think I would ever ride in a way needed to rely on one though. I think I would always be looking at my speed as I do now ....

I doubt I would have much use for one anymore ... I'm thinking of "graduating" to a cruiser anyway !!! ..... the pace or style of relaxed riding seems to appeal more to me now ....

Looks like the prospect of detectors being banned is going to be raised again this year (article on the stuff homepage today). Reading through most of the comments posted I had to laugh as it was just like reading a KB thread.

The ban looks likely to fail again.

National's then transport spokesman, Maurice Williamson, opposed the move, saying "people use them to moderate their speed".

"I'm not sure that a Big Brother attitude is a good thing."

Canterbury road policing manager Inspector Derek Erasmus said radar detectors did not prevent motorists from getting caught.

"I issued a speeding ticket to a person last Thursday who was in a rental car and the person had come from out of town and brought their radar detector with them. They don't necessarily make any difference other than to show a proclivity on behalf of the driver to speed."

Police officers ticketing people for speeding regularly saw radar detectors, he said.

"Some people think it will enable them to speed and endanger the public without getting caught, but that's not necessarily the case."
If National's transport spokesman is against the ban and police are happily ticketing the users of detectors then I don't think it is overly likely that a ban will go through.

I recall hearing the idea of a law change to ban detectors about 20 years ago, it still hasn't happened.

The Minister of Transport is not Maurice Williamson, so "the minister's" view might have changed.

    Arse.

The STi has told me it "requires servicing"...
7 months old and still under warranty, luckily.

Might have been another thread but I recall some people saying the Beltronics STi hasn't been reliable of late. One guy had to return three times until he got one which worked.

I'm wondering whether the Valentine is a better option for that reason.
