Where to ride around chch?

I got my rgv all sort today so I am a very happy man now

My mechnical recommend me to give her a big and good blow out. I am new to motorbikes so I don't really feel that comfortable to ride at a busy high way

( I got car accident in feb as well and still not feel that great for speed)

I will try to get over that and just wonder those chch riders know any open road around chch that normally not very busy and easy to ride

I am planing to do that on this sunday.

Not a large ride, but the road around the back of Tai Tapu has a lot of really nice sweeping bends and not too much traffic, or there are the nice long straights in between Tai Tapu and Lincoln which only usually have the farmers driving down them! If you look on a map, it is the area between Motukarara, Tai Tapu, Lincoln and even out as far as Rolleston. Good open roads with little traffic.

I think I may have to go out this weekend now having thought about all those beautiful back roads

Old Tai Tapu road comes to mind - that's where I got used to speeds in excess of 70 km/h. Mostly 80 km/h speed zones - a short bit at 70 and a slightly longer at 100.

If it's a shorter ride you want you could do the McLeans Island road starting at the Johns Road end. Good variety of road types from sharp corners to long sweepers and finishing up with a big long straight and then you turn around and then do it the other way as the road seems completely different going back. The road doesn 't seem to be that busy either. You'd probably just need to watch out for shady bits on the road if there's been a frost.

What Mikkel said, the Tai Tapu road is great

Little/no traffic and a good mix of higher speed zones. This is where I got used to high speeds (ie not 50kmph). Cheers Mikkel.

One of my favourite rides is up to Amberly turn left onto the inland rout HW49 thru Ashly gorge etc might be some grit at this time of year. Ya gota number of options back thru Rangiora, tram road, youcould carry on thru to the Waimak gorge home etc. Little traffic.

They were sweeping dyers pass road today, but it will still be a bit gritty and dirty. Sumner- Evans Pass- Lyttleton- Goveners Bay- Diamond Harbour with lunch and Godley House Back over Gebbies pass- via the old Tai Tapu road.

On an RG he'd want to really watch out for the 'JUMP; and should also mention the rough strips they put in to piss off the boy racers

Watch the roads - if it is damp there are a lot of areas by shelter belts that don't get the sun in winter. Add to that some cow shit and you can easily get a 100km plus rear wheel spin going on

I'd suggest a spin out to Little River. Nice open road running with some good corners.
Stop at the Little River cafe or the Bakery for a nibble and a coffee. Nice Art Gallery there as well.
Little River is about 40 ks from Halswell.

Again care on the shaded corners.
