    Unhappy Speedo broken....Help needed thanks.

Coming back from Hamilton today, I looked down to check the speed again... as I always do.... and buggar me the speedo was no longer working... so I had no idea what speed I was doing from this point on and the speedometer wasnt turning over....

So I need some help from you guys... just browsing through my manual.... and I have found some stuff about it......

Has anyone repaired a speedo before or am I better to get it done at the shop???? and what is it likely to cost to get it fixed....?

I am living in West Auckland... if anyone can help me.

(Hope that this is in the right place.... if not "Spank Me" will you please move it to the right section)

The problem tends to be moisture in the top of the cable causing it to break. Hopefully with a new cable in place it'll work again

I'm not sure it was moisture that made my old speedo cable break, but I disconnected the new speedo cable when I was taking the front wheel off the bike and it wasn't moisture in the top, it was moisture (bloody full of water, it seemed) right through it. There was still grease in there too, so it's ok. But maybe I'll have to check my speedo/odometer instrument cluster to see if it's leaking water inside it and leaking down into the cable...
Sorry for kinda hijacking the thread. Time for me to

Never mind you now have a bike that never ages "forever young' like time stoodstill like me, and one day a few million years from now you can fix it and sell it to some poor unsuspecting bastard. thats what Racey would do! and anyway know this with a 250 cruiser you are doing 120 klm when the rev counter is saying red and 50 when its 7000rpm speedos are for information only.
I saw a VTR 1000 today with paintpen marks on the speedo to advice the limits 50 and 100 we then proceeded to see those marks ignored with gusto.
mind you its nice to have everything working. I would want it fixed too? and I Would sus the cable or the little nylon dog gear thats at the drive end that will cost 1$ and 200$ to fit no doubt? :disapint:

Used to be able to years ago,in fact you could once take in any cable and they`d make you one up as long as the ends were o.k..Last one I bought was all in one, very easy to fit, shouldn`t take any more than a couple of minutes if it`s the cable, which it normally is.If not a s/hand speedo from a breaker shouldn`t be too expensive, might even get a choice of kms as well.

Sometimes they just come undone and only need to be screwed back into place to get it working again. You will need to try to tighten it to see if it is loose some cables can still be attached but the inner has come out and no spedo will go.
