What bike do you think I should buy?

Hey everyone- Im a poor student with a spare 2grand. I want to buy a scooter or a gn250 or something like that to get to school everyday..ive researched it and the gas for a scooter actually is a heck of alot cheaper than catching the bus! I want something that will be able to cruise at 100k... ive found heaps of bikes that would do the same job but theyre chinese...so dont really wanna go there!

any help would be much appreciated! thanks

Hey Carter... Id go for an Suzuki FX125 Scooter/Step thru (5spd). I had one and Im 6.3 and 100kg and mine used to sit at 95-100 easy a, maxed out at 120. Very cheap to run and a bullet proof motor. You can pick a minter up for sub 2k. A bit differant to look at but great fun to ride. Awsome little bikes. I used mine when I lived at the beach to bypass new years traffic....I think Smiths in Tauranga have still got my one on the shop floor.

Check out whats going on trade me with the scorpio 225 ! at 4 k new there has to be a few good second hand ones going on there by now at a price close to what ya got !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

I'll chime in with my ususal comments (although these are ususally directed at learners, but hey, same class of bike...)

FXR150s are too much fun to ride for no apparent reason. I think it has to do with how small and light they are. I would think the FX125 (as someone else mentioned above) would be a similar amount of fun.

RGV150 is also a giggle - and it's an obnoxious 2 stroke which makes it even better!

GN250s are terrible. Not. Fun. They have their following but I'm buggered if I know why. The other 2 are way more fun to punt around in traffic.

You got all that in 1. Although I wouldnt touch a 2 stroke due to reliability.. especially if i was a learner. There was a guy on here a few months back that bought one and seized it by over revving? (missed a gear or something) forked out for a new engine and then did it again 2 weeks later.... (???)

With my old FX125 you could pin the throttle until it stopped acceleratn THEN change gear. (Thrash the tits off it) And your right they are great fun to ride. FX150 could be a goer...

A beginner would crash from just starting it. Like me!

I've SAT on a GN250, they feel like really easy going bikes, their handlebars are at more of a cruisy height instead of bikes with a serious angle that I've sat my fat ass onto (sports bikes).

Funny, why do people not buy heaps of road gear for a scooter compared to a normal motorbike? If you're cruising around at 50km/h I'm sure that if you bailed you'd want the protection if you were to bail off either bike.

Although full leathers would look a bit serious on a 50cc scooter.

Get a red one - red bikes are good! Failing that a black or a green one will do...

    Okay

Get a bike you can pick up, by yourself.

And then sit on it, and make sure you're comfortable with seat height and where the handlebars on.

Lastly, make sure it's cheap to run, and have a mechanic check it out to be sure you're not buying a piece of sh*t that will break down next week.

I'm a big fan of those.

Can cruise at a 100 on the motorway and has space to put stuff in.

When I buy a scooter, Its going to be this one !
