    Question Auckland bearing suppliers?

Right, decided it was time to do some more development work on the bucket and I need some new wheel and stearing head bearings.

I figure enough of you have done this before so to save me time and a bit of effort comparing prices and quality at a few different engineering supply shops round the auckland area I will ask the question,

Where is the best place to go to get good quality bearings at a reasonable (of course comparable to quality) prices?

For the record Qkkid was in my bed, not the other way round

Depends on where you are in Auckland. I don't have a bucket, but I worked in the bearing and transmission industry for many years.

Auckland Bearings on Diana Drive in Glenfield are good to deal with and prices are fair. There are several small independent bearing suppliers around Auckland that value repeat business and give good advice and service.

Chinese bearings would probably be OK for wheel bearing and steering head applications. I personally wouldn't use a Chinese bearing in a gearbox or electric motor though....

Try Waitemata Hydraulics - 27 Waipareira av henderson.
They have SKF and have had all the head bearings I have been after and some of the wheel bearings. Price is good and quality is excellent.

They will send you around the corner to a supplier (Bearing Supplies Ltd) in Clemway pl if they don't have the ones you are after. Price is good but quality can be variable, depending on the actual size and application - i.e. if it's not main stream, you may have to take what you can get.

The Bearing Supplies has an excellent supply of seals - better than the dealers.

My experience is you will walk out with the goods and at a fraction the cost of the dealers, where you will likely have to wait for them to come x japan and at times be cheap Chinese bearings anyway, but in genuine parts packaging.

Stupid thought, the bearing races, will I get them at the same place or are they a bike specific part?

I've had a good run with Saeco http://www.saeco.co.nz/

Just take the old bearing with you (preferable) or the measures and any numbers on the current ones and they should be abale to match for a good price.
