    Van hire

Anyone know of any half decent, cheap van rentals companies down kapiti/wellington way? I'm trying to decide if it'll be better to take a van down to the britten races in march or to pay the exhorbitant ferry fares for a trailer?

Either that, or any racers got any space in van to share??

Load the bike up until it looks like one of those oh-so-many Indian/Asian vehicular possession haystacks then get it onto the ferry, then pick up the rental van in Picton. Cheap as? You could book it ahead to be at the terminal waiting.

You ever seen a pack rack on a vehicular possession haystack? How do they get that stuff to stay there? Gravity & balance and the odd bit o' rope.

Thanks fellas. No one said a motorbike had to be street legal to take it on the ferry. Luggage points are still on there, but it might be interesting tying the wets, wheels and toolboxes to the back. Will try piggypackers.

Well you could do what a guy here did for the Nationals at Manfield in 2003

Stuck his racebike in the back of his fathers ute and drove to Picton, unloaded the bike and rode onto the ferry and then rode through to Manfield

Picked up his slicks from his mate who carted his gear up for him got them changed and rode to and from the track on them, raced the weekend, got his tyres changed back and rode back to Wellington, crossed back over loaded the ute back up and drove home.

Bike was unregistered and unwarranted and had race fairings on,no lights, indicators etc and he had no licence, strangely enough since then he's been to jail for driving offences and lost his licence twice more.

Only problem with that plan is that there is no pillion for the pit crew
