I agree it's not that important. But just for reference, having done some beach racing earlier this year, I can tell you that my 200EXC, jetted overly fat/rich for safety at extended periods of 100% throttle, seemed to catch and pass all the 250 4T bikes near me some more easily than others (except for one which I heard later had a big-bore kit). Unfortunately they'd catch & pass me through the turns power isn't everything. And there were plenty of 250 4Ts off in the distance at the pointy end of the field.

beach racing wise, a 250 2t is a match for a 450 4t. i wouldnt say one was faster than the other.

That's pretty much my experience too.

I ride an 03 KTM 200 EXC that I moved to from a WR250F with YZ muffler and YZ exhaust cam timing. Also, I ride with quite a few riding mates who own/owned 250Fs (YZ, CRF, WR).

A crisply jetted 200 EXC is quite a lot faster than any 250F in a straight line roll-on through-the-gears power test, by 2-3 lengths or more when run out to about 80 - 100 km/h.

When it comes to general dirt riding this is all moot - as usual, the guy with the biggest balls wins. When straight horsepower matters though - for example, an old fat bastard suddenly encountering a short run up hillclimb in washy sand - a 200 EXC is a better bet than a 250F.

might note a 200 2t beating a 250 4t for straight line power isn't surprising at all - it's what a 2t is best at, and it's firing twice as often would more thatn make up for the slightly smaller capacity

bring back the 500 2 strokes!
