Boy will not walk again after motocross accident

    Life can be soo creul!

    STORY FROM STUFF:

A Feilding couple have spoken out about how their nine-year-old son will never walk again after a motocross bike accident

Christian Nesbit landed awkwardly after a 24-metre-long jump at Taupo's Digger McKeown Park and broke his back in three places earlier this year.

He is now at Burwood Spinal Unit in Christchurch where he has been diagnosed as paraplegic with no movement from the chest down.

His father Damian Nesbit told the Manawatu Standard he watched his son land with "a mixture of shock, disbelief and hope".

"I kept saying to him `you're going to be okay', but he said `it's not okay dad, I can't feel anything in my legs'.

"When I asked him later why he went so fast he said `I was buzzing dad'."

A pupil at Colyton School, near Feilding, Christian was a competitive motocross rider and keen soccer player.

His mother Lynne Nesbit revealed how the family was going to visit rising rugby star schoolboy Robert Hickland, 17, also from Feilding, on the day he died in Burwood. He was left paralysed after suffering a serious neck injury in a game last month

Nine years old and jumping 24 metres? That's asking for trouble, no matter what experience he's had. Shit happens, but I personally feel that his parents shouldn't have let him jump that far, that's mental.

    That sucks man. Poor bike.

You might be trolling, you may be serious. Either way I think that its kinda tragic. If he had managed to land that jump then he'd be a legend. I dont think that you can ever judge someone for pushing the boundaries.....

Yeah poor little guy. Tragic at such a young age, but I hope he can prove doctors wrong as has already been said.

Yeah, it is terrible. I grew up and went to school with a kid who at the age of 21 had a terrible motorbike accident and is a tetraplegic. He was revived numerous times at his mothers requests but wishes he was allowed to die. He lives over the road from my mums house... A tragedy for everyone, but particularly him. Very sobering when you hear things like this.

Alot of tragic ways to ruin a life, one is by being so safe that nothing bad or good ever happens. This kid, and many like him really live. Unfortunately in life there are risks, bad luck and consequence.

Shit that hit me hard in the guts, both my two grandsons and one of my sons and my son in law ride motocross and play rugby.

As Sels said, there but for the grace etc.

The trouble with age is you have seen (and been in) all the pitfalls before and start to think negative thoughts.

It's not healthy though because you can't wrap your kids up in cotton wool, they are entitled to their experience of life.

As I say to my kids, go for it like it was all you are ever going to do in life, a feint heart never won a far lady.

I bet given the chance again those boys would still go for it.

I sure do feel the despair of those parents and their boys and right now feel sick in the stomach for them, Damn! Are we crazy or what! :slap: John.

    Outch...

That hit home. Have 4 boys and I can really feel the pain those parents feel.

May the bridges I burn light the way.
