    Honda Shadow - handling?

    Hi
    is anyone else having problem with boots srapping on ground when leaning into moderate corners, typically roundabouts ?
    whilst on shadows handling, find fuel consumption magickal, wow 62 - 65mpg is excellent @ 60 - 70mph.. My bike is 2007 shadow 750cc c4

    I found my right heel was ground down. I ended up 'feeling' for the boot on the road, and then knowing that I was in control... that sudden "OMG my foot is on the road" is a bit scary if you aren't ready for it.

    When I am in the twisties I try to scrape the footrests if I can to stay aware...

    The first Shadow I rode (VT1100 Shadow Ace, I think it was) freaked me out when I came to the first corner, a very easy and slow (<30km/h) left turn, and my boot was on the road. WTF?!?!
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.


    Or maybe not...

    You get that with some cruisers, aye. Ground clearance that's way too low for the cornering that their suspension and tyres could potentially be doing. Swot I've found with the couple of FXDWGs I've ridden.

    Not much you can do about it, I don't imagine, other than maybe look for some tyres with a taller profile to give you an extra few millimetres.

    It's called being on a cruiser. They are known for having low clearance

    Try it on some of the factory Harleys, they are even lower.

    My bike is classed as a "sports cruiser" and thus the pipes are tucked up higher, and the pegs are foward and up a bit. But I can still scrap them. Doesn't freak me out now that I'm used to it. Shouldn't be too much of an issue - my honda's pegs fold up to give you lee way and my pegs (and possibly yours) actually have little feeler nubs on the bottom that take the brunt when you are dipping low

    yeah, thanks for the input sure glad to know it wasnt just me, lol, and yep, i gots some of them steel plated boots, just didnt know why i had them til now and yep again , them foot pegs do have little nibly bits on the underneath.

    as the lone rider siad, your on a cruiser and that is part of its set up. Cruisers are just as the name describes and riding, braking and cornering are very differnet to sports or adventure type bikes. Slow speed cornering is probably the main time that you will experience scraping. Adjust your lines a little and prepare for it. If it continues to worry you then you can raise the bike with suspension adjustments but this may impact on why you brought the bike in the first place. As I said be aware that this will happen and change your riding style somewhat. You become more sweeping and elegent than flip and flop.

    Its normal.... and you'll probably find, but check, that your boards/pegs are designed to scrape first. Te he, that first time gets the body functions moving eh.

    Glad to say I havent had this problem with the C50T... I think I would be more worried about the abrasions to my bike than I would about my foot lol

    Yep most of the time my nubs hit the ground is on slow tight corners or round abouts so when the going is a mite tough I put my heel just off the back of the floorboard then if my heel hits the deck...as it does, I know I have still got more leaning to go before it turns to custard..

    Cruisers are cruisers and I love em...

    I should take a photo of my boots... they have some very nice pretty scrapes. I don't lift.. I grind until out of the turn muahahah

    Yep, it's particularly easy to scrape pegs at low speeds, especially on round-a-bouts with the anti-cambers.

    The sparks look cool too..

    If it really bothers you, you can just lean with you body and that'll keep the bike more upright, but otherwise scrape away. My Hond'as foot pegs have springs that allow them to lift up, i've gotten used to be bike so I know when i'm gonna scrape. Allows you to know your limits I reckon.

    Pegs are to be expected.. just watch out when the frame hits the floor.. that's when you'll be shitting yourself.

    My ol Shadow use to do the same.. After near shit my dacks the first time it happened it becomes a bit of a game.

    People do realise it's *easier* to lean over further at lower speeds than it is at higher speeds right...?
